There's a few things you should leave in a voicemail:

1) Contact information (name and number). Most people include this but please speak clearly.

2) WHAT YOU ARE CALLING FOR!! Leaving a VM on my phone telling me to "call you back" will only get your VM ignored. Tell me what you're calling for - what item? What email? What site? What domain? Etc..

Yes, your VM has been ignored.

Besides - the highly unethical practices of your parent company in the past would guarantee that I would never do business with you - ever.

(For those of you who want to bring up the "but you'll lose out on a sale" bit, honestly, I don't care about that. Very few of my domains would really be in demand, the ones that would be in demand I am using and have active sites on them, and I wouldn't want to sell them to the people who would go though you to buy it anyway).

I'm not going to say who the most recent one but in the past I've received calls from other companies, too who do the same thing.

"Hi this is (name) from (company) please give us a call back!"

What, no number? Why are you calling me?

Of course, I get the same at work, too. "Hi, this is (insert name), give me a call back please?" What am I calling you for so I'm not looking like a complete fool (just a partial one like usual) when I call you back?? :)

Bido just left me a message.

They were upfront and polite.
"Hi this is Larry from Bido dot com the auction company. I noticed that you're selling some domains and would like to speak with you at your earliest convenience."

I am registered at Bido but does that mean they got the information from whois scraping ?

I leave the ringer turned off on my main line 99% of the time. My clients all know my cell number. :)
