A few years back shortly after i got married to my husband I had purchased my very first domain. Forever-Always.com it was a personal site I created for my husband and I. I loved that domain. Well after 1 year of registration on it, I let it expired, not knowing anything about the domain business, not thinking someone would pick it up and sell it right after it expired and for a high price(was hoping to get it a month or two later when i had the money, domains were still $$ back then)

So anyhow over the years ive been checking on it every so often to see if it was availiable, and tonight was the night that it come up "Congratulations this domain is availiable" I was so happy i had to double check the spelling of it lol. This was the one domain I have always wanted back. I know it's a hypenated name but it has sentimental value and actually still does have a small amount of links directing to it lol.

Anyone else ever had this happen where you thought you would never get a name back and one day you have access to it again??

Sorry just had to share it with someone that understands the business as everyone else I would tell would just say "ohh ok, cool" lol

Very cool..
Now renew it for 10 years and dont let it expire as it holds special meaning in your life.

So glad you got it back!

I think Scorpio's suggestion is a good one...

it used to get traffic because i had lots of stuff on there more then just a personal site. But i am going to do so much more with it now, because when i had it before I had it sitting on my free webspace my isp provided me with the domain pointed to it, so no db, and I didn't know anything about php or css back then everything was html. lol so now im going out baby lol

Something similar happened to me except I never owned it.

I was an admin on a site for months, I loved it, I Used to put 8-10 hours work in each day then one day I came online and the owner told me he couldnt afford to keep it anymore, I never had funds to help keep it nor buy it so the site went. A few months after joining the domain industry and earning some $ I was browsing NamePros, A great shock to me, The domain name was for sale, I bought it :) and plan to keep it forever. (The seller deleted backups of site files and put it on PPC Parking so I got in contact with old friends and admins on the site and redeveloped but hey..we cant have everything)

PS. The site has a hyphen in url and would be worth $0 - $-100 to most people on the forum but to me its my baby :p

To sneakers.com, please don't tell me the same thing happened to you with "sneakers.com" LOL!..

Anyway, a similar thing happened to me with a domain of mine. Only difference was that it cost me $1000 or so to get it back.

Oh well.

I had xamish.com and had talked to the guy that had EXAmish.com, as I wanted it for my site, and he did not want to sell, as it was his email addy... So I put it in my account at Whois.sc to watch it, and one day I get an email saying that this domain was deleted, so i went and checked and sure enough, it was available, so I registered it, and have had it for over a year now.

On the other hand, I have twin daughters, and was just starting in domaining, when I was given MyTwinClub.com as a present from a guy I was doing business with, and then after 2nd year, I let it expire, then I checked, and it was a PORN site, so I let that be till this year, and it was available, and it came available, but I did not reg it... Mow it goes to MyTwinn.com... eToys Direct™, Inc now owns it!

I have appraised too many domains as "reg fee", but this time I gotta say this name is worth INVALUEBLE cause it means to much to the owner.
Congratulations!

I SOLD "WinRealBig.com" for low $x,xxx to a big credit card company for some big promo giveaway they had of the exact same name..which was one of my first domains I ever registered...so long story short...I missed it REALLY bad and put it on a Godaddy backorder "just in case" well low and behold...after like 9 months they had used the name, everything was all over and they let it drop! So I logged into my email account one day with a message from Godaddy telling me it had been registered on my behalf (wooohoooo!) So of course in true domainer fashion I looked at it for a few weeks in my account and parked it around the world for a bit and then of course RESOLD it...lol
They are only good domains if they make you money, don't let anyone tell you differently! :)

I have names that I concider as good witout earning a revenue from them. Ofcourse revenue is good, but to have a good name for personal site can be priceless. I have a few such names... I have tracyiloveyou.com for my wife, and although it hardly earns anything, that don't matter.
