Does anyone know exactly how to transfer ownership(the steps) of a domain at verisign? How long does the transfer take to go through?

Its a Bit*h!

Change registrars FIRST. Seriously. Change registrars, and use enom. As soon as you get the domain, push it.

Super FAST! Otherwise, use Netsol (verisign), and deal with FAXING, NOTARIES, and BS!

Doberry is 500% correct, switching registrars first is definetely the way to go.

If this is not an option, the registrant transfer is complicated:

You will need to fill out some online templates that will eventually create a registrant transfer agreement. Then you have to fax it to the current owner, who gets it notarized, signs it, and then sends it into NSI.

Even if you're not selling a domain, you should switch away from NSI. They are the worst registrar, and you stay there at your own risk.

If you are the purchaser... simply go to godaddy, and initiate a transfer request.

Tell the seller to "accept" the transfer request. It should be in your godaddy account in 2-7 days.

changing registrars has nothing to do with the DNS stuff, leave that alone for now. Just follow Doberry's instructions, keeping this in mind:

I don't know for sure, but there is a decent chance that there will be *two* emails that the old owner will have to accept. One will come from GoDaddy, and about 48 hours later the other one will come from NSI. The NSI one is very sneaky, it contains a NIC code buried very deeply near the end of the email, that the buyer will have to insert into the subject line when he sends the email to NSI.

Someone said that NSI might be requiring people to accept some long agreement before they change registrars, but I know nothing about that. It might or might not effect you.

Yes, NSI's letter IS very sneaky. They made it look like an advertisement for their services, so you delete it and forget about it. Meanwhile, your domain is going nowhere...You noticed this too, huh draqon.

In other words Eddie...RUN from verisign, but look both ways before crossing the street.
