Automattic, the company behind the WordPress platform, has introduced a new feature: 100-year domain name registration in the .com, .org, .net, and .blog domain suffixes.
The cost of a ‘lifetime’ domain is $2,000. WordPress draws the attention of users who decide to register a domain for 100 years that a special system will renew the account from year to year.
A ‘lifetime’ domain registration seems very attractive because it eliminates the need for regular renewal. This means the risk of losing domains due to missed deadlines is reduced. We wrote more about such risks in the article How Not to Lose Your Domain Name: Tips for Businesses.
Why should you care? By registering a domain with a ‘lifetime’ term, the client should be sure that the company providing the service will be around for a long time and that the registration will be renewed regularly. Consider well-established companies with a long history in the market. For instance, WordPress has been on the market for many years and offers a range of products that are widely used by businesses and individuals.
Our .it.com extension offers a 10-year domain registration, which provides a period during which registration renewal is not required.

According to a report from the National AI Opinion Monitor (NAIOM, a long-term project that tracks public attitudes toward artificial intelligence), Americans have mixed feelings about trusting AI. The survey, which took place in Q4 2024, involved 4,767 adults in the United States.
Researchers from Rutgers University conducted the study for the NAIOM to understand how people perceive AI and the content created using it.
Half of the respondents said they trust information from AI more than social media, especially those aged between 25 and 44.
Half of respondents also believe that companies using AI are responsible for the technology. When asked to compare trust in journalism and AI-generated news, 62% said they trust leading journalists, while only 48% trusted AI-generated content.
Most groups preferred content that feels like it was written by humans, emphasizing the importance of a personal touch in the news.
Only 13% of respondents felt “very confident” in recognizing AI-generated content, while 30% felt “somewhat confident.”
Why should you care? Although AI can automate and analyze data more efficiently, people still appreciate content created by humans. According to a survey, to keep an audience engaged and interested, it’s crucial to combine the power of AI with meaningful and human-oriented messages.

Liverpool Football Club has been unsuccessful in their dispute over the LiverpoolFCTickets.com domain. The club’s management filed a complaint against cybersquatting, seeking to transfer the rights to the domain to them. According to them, the domain can be used for the illegal resale of tickets.
The case was heard in the Czech Arbitration Court under the UDRP procedure (the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy is a procedure established by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to resolve disputes related to the registration of domain names.).
Victoria McEvedy, a member of the commission, rejected the plaintiff’s arguments. She pointed out that the domain was old and had been acquired by the current owner at the end of 2024, and now isn’t used in any way.
The argument about the possible legitimate use of someone else’s trademark is unique. The UDRP rules have an exception that allows companies to use other people’s trademarks if they provide goods and services related to them. For instance, a company that distributes Apple gadgets can use the Apple brand in its domain.
It’s possible that the domain owner intends to use it legally.
According to Gerben’s blog (a company that deals with trademark protection), in most cases, disputes are resolved in favor of the brand owner. Therefore, the case with Liverpool FC can be called atypical.
Why should you care? Using someone else’s brand or trademark in a domain name is usually illegal. However, as we can see from the example of Liverpool FC, there are exceptions.
Therefore, it’s important to protect your own brand and domain name with care. The most efficient way to do this is to register all possible domain names with different domain suffixes. This option is not cheap, but it’s effective.
