Oh! didn't quite get there. December 29th, 34,699 domains deleted and that is only the start. Get a life! Dot info is bargain basement. Thats what happens when you start giving product away!

Now, wait when the promotion they made will reach its first year, you will see 50,000-200,000 domains dropping per day.

There have been on average 5-10,000 registrations a day. I doubt there will be that many drops a year from now other than those that eNom registered which noone wanted anyway and are probably the ones you are seeing drop now. I personally have picked up around 80 I will be developing as a network and will definately reregister them. This is outside of the few hundred others I have picked up for resale. I have only let 6 names drop in the 2+ years I've been reselling 2 were registration mistakes and four I'm considering renewing now. 75+% of my registrations have been .info. Most have found new homes withing a matter of months.

If I only had the hundred or so three letter.infos I sold for chump change last year. This time next year where do you think they will be? In higher demand... When you have a limited supply of a product and that supply is greatly decreased by whatever means then the price naturally increases because demand is much higher. Those that wanted to by direct from the source will have to then buy from someone else who has that item whether it be an individual, broker or whatever.

I think the huge ups and downs have something to do with someone like this
Name Server New In Out Deleted Gain %G All
RENTALQUEUE.COM 16,746 2 -1 -25,314 -8,567 -12.28% 69,762

The real .info drops were less than 1000 today. Looks like someone might be testing traffic while they are cheap and dumping them if they have none. All other level nameservers look normal.

Nice :)

Enjoy it while it lasts, apparently they are going to experiment with charging for them again soon. That should be a laugh!

I take it your portfolio is full of four-word .coms then? :)

I registered 25 free .info domains from 1DNI.com today, they require no CC#. This is the last day for the promotions so hurry up and take advantage of the free offers that other registrars are offering! ;-)

Not at all, although I admit the dot com situation is getting pretty crowded. I had been concentrating on drops generally with two word combinations and I must admit mainly dot nets and ended up with about 600 domains, but have let some of them drop. Once Pool, Snapnames and Namewinner all decided to get greedy with their extended auctions, I gave that up as a bad joke, although most of my existing domains make around the $1,000 mark, but trade is slow. I have acquired 70 odd three letter dot CN, but intend to off load some of those with little traffic. My main area of interest lately is IDN dot coms with some dot nets, where we have registered over 2,000, These are mostly single character or single word domain, for which we know that is a huge demand for the English Equivalent. We have focused on the major asiatic languages because of under exploitation at the time and because of the shear size of some these emerging markets. Languages in terms of importance are Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Hindi and Russian. Most of these domains would fetch 6 to 7 figures if they were Romanic dot coms. I guess the ultimate potential for these is actually about 100th and 10th of their romanic counter parts, but then some cannot be evaluated in that way as they correspond to those reserved by IANA. Never the less, most should eventually go in the 4 to 6 figure area, which is not bad when the initial cost is $7, although we must expect to renew at least a couple of times before the project goes cash-flow positive.

There is a lot scepticism about IDN, but our traffic figures are growing nicely and particularly in the Chinese market type-in is already a reality. I have also been surprised by the recent growth in traffic on Arabic and Hindi domain.

Actually, I though dot Info was going quite well and actually bought a few until they lost the plot and started giving them away. Very damaging for market image in my opinion.

Sell them now....
Yes, you now have 8 months to sell your .info (free, discount or fully paid) before the BIG (HUGE, ENORMOUS, GIGANTIC, etc.) drop starting in Sep 05. I honestly don't think the renewal rate will be anything higher than 10 - 15% (and I'm quite sure even Afilias has NOT been expecting anything higher either in their internal analysis); and the value of .info will once again drop to a new low in about a year's time (with total registrations shrinking dramatically).

Having said that, keywords .info (like those in other gTLDs) will always be good investment. HOWEVER, please bear in mind that .info keywords are not exactly the same as those of .com.

:) 15,600,000 listings in Google, but when you dig a bit deeper you see:

In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 853 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.

There have been many a time in the last 3+ years that demise of .info was predicted with certainty and (I should add) with anticipatory glee. For instance the widespread predictions that there would be massive drops at the 2-year anniversary of .info release and that would practically mark the end of the tld.

IMO, .info is now well passed beyond that. No, its not going to become .com, or for that matter, even .de or .co.uk but it has already establised a solid presence at a grassroots level than many would realize. Many cities/towns, chambers of commerces, public libraries, states and counties, even some countries, and countless small-medium sized business (some big ones too) and individuals are already using it. It is quite interesting to note that much of this development is not around the types of names that would be considered of any value in the domainer community...i.e. one would see mostly 2-3 words long, hyphenated names developed and being used by these end-users...why? Primarily, because they realized the extension is much more suitable for their online purpose/objective and also probably due to the fact that in other cases the same names in more coveted extensions were either already with end-users or being used for ppc pages. Yes, most of the promo .infos collected by domainers will drop simply because by the time the promo began there were hardly any names left that would be of value in the aftermarket. On the other hand, many many of these promos are being regged by end-users, especially in poor third world countries where it means a lot to be able to save a few dollars on the first year registration; these end-users would not just renew their regs at the end of their first year but meanwhile will help further establish the presence of the tld from the bottom up. Our problem is that all we know are other domainers....and no matter how many free/promo regs our brethern get, they'd always pale in comparison to the ordinary regs by millions of regular folks around the globe.

Even with the huge drop tomorrow they will stay above 3 million. I wonder what happened to cause 39,280 in one day and this 6 days after the promo ended.
