Domainnamesystems is offering expired domains to their clients. Anyone knows about other registrars doing this? I understand people not willing to share this info.

antone, the answer is this is an illegal practice and I am sure if the domains are dropping they are dropping for everyone. If another registrar is doing this, then it's on the down and dirty and no one would ever tell you.

If htey are renewing thier own clients dropping names and selling em to others (or a service) it is illegal (against ICANN rules).

However, if they are allowing them to delete, they have no advantage of catching them.

I believe it use to be the advantage was that the registrar could tell the exact time they were going to delete the domain but now the registry deletes the names.

hope this helps.

FYI - I got something even more insidious: SpeedyDomains.com, an Enom reseller, just "assumes" the name one day after the expiration date by changing both the "registrant, admin., tech.," etc. email address and the physical address to something of their own creation:

Registrant Contact:
skin inc
eagr fin lee mond-e ([email protected])
nope
FAX: doublenope
6336 milwakee #14
port, OR 97202
US

(Don't believe it? Check AtlantaEscorts.com, TheEscorts.com, and NevadaEscorts.com, names which I had been following for a long time. When I got in touch with them about the first one that expired [Atlanta] and asked them how much they wanted, their reply was quite terse indeed: "How much ya got?")

We're talkin' pure "garbage" here!

Domainnamesystems:

Terms of sale
The process
Domain holders are notified by email twice , once at the beginning of the month prior to expiry, and again, at the beginning of the month of expiry to the email address listed in the customer account. Further another email is sent on the date of expiry by the registry to the admin contact email shown in Whois.

We then allow 10 days, after which time we remove the domain name from the user account, and offer it for sale to our customer base.

The previous domain holder may at any time prior to resale, contact customer service to renew their expired name, for our current normal registration/renewal fee. If the domain name has been resold, the previous domain holder has no rights to the name from that point forward.

The domain names are offered on a declining scale valuation basis, with them becoming less expensive with each passing week they are listed. There are no holds, or guarantees that you will be able to purchase a name. The system is a first come , first serve basis. Systems failures and internet connectivity issues will not be addressed as a valid reason for a name purchase failure. If it goes through, its yours (subject to the below conditions), if not, its not yours.

Upon successful purchase, the domain name is then renewed for 1 year, and transferred to the new domain holder, subject to the conditions listed below.

Anton#1,

MIS (may I suggest) that you go to INTERNIC.com and file a registrar complaint form. Just fill it in and recopy the info in your last post and paste it on the form. That'll get their attention.

Sitehq,

I went to INTERNIC.com and filed a complaint a few months ago about a huge pile of names "parked" at the register.com "dept." that you mentioned ("Unpaid Names...")! Long story short: every last one of them eventually dropped and I got a couple of 'em!

Conclusion: Internic/ICANN have muscle! USE THEM!

One of my registers offers "preowned" domains. None of them are expired, but it's pretty wierd. I did grab some decent names.
