Having internet connection problems lately. I haven't been able to find out the source of the problem.

Sometimes webpages don't load properly, can't view streaming videos, hard to download files.

I cannot use DNF chat because I get disconnected after 5 seconds. I get disconnected from Instant messenger almost every 5 minutes. :?:

Anyone ever had these connection problems?

Start from the source and connection:
- ISP: cable, DSL, etc... check the modem/router
- Check the cable from the router/modem to your PC/Laptop
- Check the NIC from your PC/Laptop
Do you get the message "network cable disconnected".

Last but not least do you have the automatic update on from Windows? some updates will screw up the driver.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response

I have more than one computer in the house and am using a Wireless router. Already checked the Modem and router and they are new and working.

How do I Check the NIC from PC/Laptop?

i think ur modem is getting reset again and again.
ths simply means that you are not getting the proper signal. can be due to two reasons:

1. your modem adapter is either not compatible or is not providing proper voltage
2. The signal you are receiving is weak.

I'm not a hardware techie, just had this problem some time aago. Found out that my adapter was kaput.

Have you purchased any wireless device or equipment recently?

Most wireless router uses 2.4Ghz frequency and you may get interference if these devices have the same frequency, i.e. cordless phone...

I have been using Vonage phone service for more than a year with a cordless phone. I noticed the Vonage service can reset my Connection sometimes when I try to make a call. I tried turning the phone and adaptor off but didn't see any difference in my connection.

thanks

If it happened to all the computers then the problem is with the router and your ISP.

I contacted my ISP about the connection problems and they convinced me to get a new modem and router. That didn't make any difference though.

Is there anyway to check my adapter?

well unfortunately the only way to do that is to use another. i had a spare adapter to check, and suprisingly, the problem got sorted the momenet i switched. the earlier adapter still has the problem.

I have already gotten a new Cable modem. Is that different from the adaptor?

adaptor is the power converter u put in to the power socket. are you using the same (old) adapter with ur new modem? if yes, thats probably the problem.

Contact ISP, eliminate local network issues first. If nothing on their end, then try unplugging all devices from Router except your main Computer. See how things run, if you still have connection issues you have isolated it to one of a few possible devices including your router, nic, cable modem. If that set up works with no connection issues, introduce one new device at a time until you determine the cause. It would even be an IP printer etc, so take everything off the network to test, then slowly re-introduce.

The other question, remember if you have recently installed any software, firewall, anti-virus etc.. You may want to rollback on that also until you determine cause of issue.

Good Luck!

Firewalls and antivirus systems can massively slow things down as they check every incoming and outgoing bit of data...

Alternatively, you may have been trojaned, and someone's piggybacking on your bandwidth.

I am sure this is not caused by Firewall or Antivirus program.

I tried connecting directly to modem, and there were no connection problems. I know the problem has to do with the Router, which I replaced but I am still having same issues.
