I truly think Augmented Reality Technology is the next domain rush. I've created this thread in order to explain you , why?

1/You should Go to google Trend, and take a look at the evolution of the keywords "Augmented Reality"
2/ The best Domain that's start by the prefix "AR" and "Augmented" are gone.
3/ They start to appear on The Market . You should have a look at sedo.com and tape " Augmented".
4/ All The Big IT companies currently have an AR project
5/ For 6 months, several AR App appear on the AppSTore (Iphone) and Droid Market (Google).
6/ Google 've just launched their Augmented Reality Application
7/ Big company've already buy and use some AR or AUgmented Domain Name.

It might be "the next big thing", but I don't think it will be called augmented reality. Augmented is too big of a word, and too hard for people to spell.

yes you're right! That's why in the Augmented Reality Industry and even Marketing Industry we call this technology AR.
You should tape on google : AR Glasses , AR Mirror , AR Pool , AR ect... AR APP , AR Device ect..
You will find product for each of this keyword.
AR Consortium is an Official organization that bring together the most important AR companies.
AR DevCamp Is the Hacker Community.
However, there are also companies and bloggers who choose the keyword "augmented".

This technology will be life changing. The portal between the digital and real worlds. I have put my money where my mouth is and own many AR domains. Watch this space....

The domaining world has heard this a dozen times - every time it has been a bust.

The phenomenal rise in smart phone usage and capabilities means that you will soon see AR apps becoming mainstream.

'Domaining world' aside there is no doubting the practical applicational benefits of this technology.

I think the technology will continue to advance for a long time and be a really great tool. But as far as domains go, the term will only be around during the initial hype. Eventually it will be just a standard technology that everyone will expect to be in their phone, car, etc..

A long time ago you could expect to put "cyber" or "e" in front of anything and expect it to sell as people were eager to show they had something that moved from the tangible world to the virtual world. This is no longer the case. I expect the same to go with AR.

Agreed... adding "AR" or "augmented" in front of a suitable keyword will eventually fade. This isnt the first emerging technology to be "the next big thing". There are a dozen "next big thing" out there I would rather invest in like m2m, 3d, m-commerce and the list trails on.

I'm also agreed on this. Although I think it will have some lifespan. Some will survive where the name calls for a distinction from non-AR technologies/services. I'm by no means saying people should bet on a return on ARTinFoil.com or ARBabyBuggies.com or other such irrelevant names but terms like ARAdvertising / ARGuide / ArGlasses etc would probably be a safe bet.

Anyway, domains aside. The mind boggles with the potential for this technology.

It is absolutely mind blowing and I think it is going to be big, have you tried the demo on this site it’s so cool. http://ge.ecomagination.com/smartgrid/?c_id=Drivepm#/augmented_reality

I agree I think certain ar domains if the keywords are both strong enough and relevant to the technology will be good, incidentally what do you think of ar geo's, i.e. arbritain.com, aramerica.com, argermany.com, ect, perhaps I am wrong but it does look like it will be quite a geo relevant type of technology and especially good for leisure and tourism type stuff.

what is with the new "official life-changing technology 'X' will be the next domain rush" threads? every domain and webmaster forum i've been to in the last couple months now has like 100-page "offical" thread for 3D TV domains. i'm not saying its not a great new technology and lots of money to be made in new domain niche, but it feels like maybe the same person dumped a bunch of money into 3D domains, then ran around to all the forums to pump the shit out of it. thinking now i can expect to start seeing 'offical augmented reality' threads springing up everywhere like mushrooms ....
