Seriously...use PayPal only with people you trust.
Escrow/EscrowDNS/Moniker Escrow/Sedo for other transactions.

The answer to your question is this...Paypal can do a chargeback, AFTER you have transferred the domain.

Use paypal only with those you trust....other than that, use Escrow.

Unlike companies such as Escrow.com, Moniker is an ICANN Accredited Registrar and the only company with a special domain escrow account at its registrar to safely hold domains and protect both buyer and seller of domain related transactions.

In addition, we have established the only domain related financial escrow account through one of the largest financial institutions in the world - Citibank. Our domain escrow service supplies both parties with all the legal documentation to complete any kind of domain transactions including outright purchases, leases, lease or monthly payments, etc.

For more information, feel free to hit me up directly! ;)

IMHO, Sedo is safer than Moniker. Sedo too holds the domain, but unlike Moniker, Sedo isn't a registrar.

Moniker can potentially take domains back after an escrow transaction has supposedly completed, Sedo can't and won't.

There was a long thread regarding this topic a few years ago; Monte acknowledged that Moniker could potentially take back a domain in some instances, such as if the credit card / PayPal payment was later disputed.

To be clear, true escrow guarantees the funds paid to the seller are "good" and will eat any potential losses - Moniker won't, and that, in my view, makes Moniker more risky to use, in regards to payment / reversal, than escrow.com, afternic, or Sedo.

Escrow.com is fine, but is one-sided escrow. They only hold the funds. That is sufficient security for most transactions, but not full-proof.

Heard good things about escrowdns.com, but they're newer than the other services.

Re Escrow.com, what is the part that is not "fool-proof"?

buyer or seller part?

Is it fact that escrow is better than paypal for domainer?

Why?:?:

an escrow service is preferred for sales between parties usually when it's a high amount and or if you don't know the buyer/seller.

i would say the majority of sales here are done quickly via paypal

most sellers ask buyers to have a Verified Paypal account and the deal is done in minutes.
however, many sellers still retain the right not to sell to anyone, but once you've established yourself in the community, you'll see what is used most and why.

if all the domainers could really trust each other, i doubt if any escrow service would get used as much.

Both.

I won't go into the scam methods here, but bottom line is that escrow.com is best for transactions in which both buyer and seller already trust each other somewhat, but want a 3rd party escrow service for a more formal transaction, and mainly to handle the money.

Again, escrow.com's method is effective for most escrows, since them handling the financial part forestalls most problems.

Personally, I prefer escrow.com, but have found Sedo escrow to be excellent; they appear to have improved - Sedo's turn-around time (though reportedly it can vary depending on the rep involved), at least for me, has been very fast, even for low $xxx sales.

Escrow.com provides a great service. I'd highly recommend them.
Though I don't know how they don't get people ****ed over really...I mean buyers can still pay with PayPal and/or a credit card, so aren't claims and charge-backs still possible?

Agree with Domagon. Sedo have actually accounts at most of registrars, seller push into their account and can get the money right away. Buyer can chose - push at the same registrar immediately (scums like Enom impose 7-day delay though) or transfer to your registrar.

I never udnerstand how someone can be using escrow.com, so easy to scam as escrow.com verify ownership only via whois:
buyers scam - he gets the domain and change whois back to original owner and claims he did not get the domain
sellers scam - he changes whois to buyer and claim he pushed the domain

Last I checked, all the escrow services mentioned, with the exception of Moniker*, assume the risk of chargebacks.

So while chargebacks are possible, it's the escrow service* that would eat it, not the seller.

* again, exception being Moniker; they have stated they potentially will pass chargebacks, after the sale has completed, back to the parties - very bad practice to say the least.

That's why escrow.com and the others require bank wire / certified check for large sales - because, to reiterate, they are on the hook for any potential credit card/paypal chargebacks / reversals that occur after the transaction has completed.

Seller would get the domain back so he would lose nothing, only little time...

I agree, use Paypal only for sellers/buyers you trust.

As for Escrow services, you have more control over your domain using Escrow.com, than you do using a service that requires you to transfer the domain prior to payment clearing.

I speaking of chargebacks that occur after the transaction has completed. Chargebacks can occur months later.

In such instances, passing the chargeback back to the seller could be very harmful, and is why none of the well known escrow services do it, with the possible exception of Moniker.

Again, harping on Moniker's practice because they claim to offer "escrow", and yet don't follow one of the basic tenents of escrow - guaranteeing the funds are "good" (assuming risk of chargebacks, etc) before allowing the transaction to proceed.

NOT TRUE, pls check my scam scenarios. I am thinking I will do some escrow.com scam just to prove how easy is that with their "half escrow"

How can they "pass it" on me when I already have the money ? Sue me ? Based on what ?
