Seriously, I looked up a domain, I knew there was a low chance of getting it but I checked anyway, and it was taken but for sale, $10,000. The domain was to help out a non-profit organization.
For example, say there is a local blood donation program called "The Big Red Bus". All Google searches for "Big Red Bus" point to them, their schedule, etc, and not many results (fewer than 10K).
I go to register bigredbus.com for them and it's taken but parked and for sale for $10,000.
Now, the only entity right now that would be interested in it would be the blood donation program which, in no way, would be able to afford that.
I see it quite often, too. Domains for sale, some even here, where the expected end user in no way would be able to afford it (no, I am not going to point out specifics). It's like if the Girl Scouts upped the prices of their cookies to $250 a box (no, I did not forget the decimal point).
I do understand that this is a business and people are here to make money but sometimes I think it goes a little too far. Or are some people well off enough that they forget what it is like to be on the lower end of the financial totem pole? $500 for a domain may not be a lot of money for a lot of people here while others that is way out of their price range.
Also, what I was looking for, IMO, wouldn't be a high demand name plus, what's on these sites is usually unethical ads (for example, if the above example was parked with links to back-alley donation places that used rusty needles but people didn't know better and gave them business anyway).
