Hi all,

I've been working at domain name buying/selling in my spare time for about a year now. My strategy is to scan through the dropping names, do my homework, and try to find a handful that I think might be worth something...

The problem is that lately, everything I think might be worth something ends up auctioning for $x,xxx when that really isn't within my budget. The most I've ever spent on a name in auction was $150. That's about as far out on a limb that I can risk going right now. There are times when I might be in seven or eight auctions at a time and not be able to afford any of the names I want.

So, my question is.. are there really gems out there somewhere that are profitable without requiring a huge bank roll to acquire? And if so, how do you find them?

Thanks,
-Dan

You either have time or you have money. if you don't have money then you need to get creative. That creativity will often take you into non saturated niches.

Still opportunity out there, I hand reged 2 last week ovt. w/ext 205 and ovt. w/ext 124 , put me in the "time" category. I never bid on drops , thats great for some people but not for me, I just keep digging for unreged traffic and brandable domains ,and also develop some domains for adsense revenue.

still possible to break in........yes it is.

depends on your goal

do you just want to make a few bucks or buy an income?

since your limbs are short, then ya gotta settle for a few bucks....at a time.

but the "made-up" names field is still wide open!

you need to spend a lot of money to go broke, Im 15 and i can spend mid x,xxx. without going broke. It all depends on how serious you want to be, do you want to buy one decent name and park it, one Ok name and dev. it, a bunch of so-so names. Are you looking to make a quick flip, or looking for the long haul?

^^ some questions to consider, you can search like hell and hope you get lucky, or you can make a list of names that arent dev. or parked, but are good names. The owners of these usually arent very domain savvy. If its parked, then the owner at least knows the domains value and knows how to use it. But by contacting owners of domains with nothing under em, and making a xxx offer. You can get a gem cheap.

Did any of that rambling make sense? im not much of a proof reader... :clown:

Gringle.com - such a fun word. Turned out to be a surname, though, as well as a plant. I like it better than Shunky, and I let Shunky be...hmm, just checked: someone regged Shunky.

I actually just got started into this.. I regged in Feb. I think you should hop into buying a domain at reg fee and developing it. I regged a name, developed a site for it, a month later i sold for Mid $XXX and the site was generating no money and has very very very little traffic. Im talking like 5 visitors month if that.

So, lets say, you bought 10 domains at reg fee, at namecheap at 8.88.. Thats $88.00 and some change. Develop 10 sites, work on them for 2 - 3 months if that, and sell for atleast $300 each. 10 x $300 = $3,000 - $88.8 for domains , You make a $2900 Profit .. Its not that easy, but its not impossible. d:)

Yes, that's possible.
I entered the game with €1k. Thrown part of them away, listened to the tips of more experienced people, bought some traffic names, regged a few others and now I should earn €300/month.
I'm going to develop a few names I have and resell them. I'll keep my money for big purchases from now on. Only names in the $xxxx. The quality is there.

Very possible, I have registered names before through the drop catchers for ~$60 and sold them at a price of $1,200 which is an excellent profit i'm sure you will agree. That's what makes the domain game fun - anyone can participate!

With a small budget it's all about turnover. I reg fee domain sold for $20 is over 100% profit. Try to buy and sell a domain as quickly as possible so you can reinvest the profits, you probably won't be getting the top price for a domain but you can't afford to be waiting around for better offers.

If you've got a domain you can't sell then develop it quickly, even a no traffic domain can be sold for high $xx to low $xxx if it's got a pretty site on it.

Keep trying with the drops, you'll miss out on most of them but there's still some good one's to be got for reg fee+$15 (enom clubdrop), and the knowledge you'll gain will help you when you get your bankroll up a bit.

Focus on a niche, use your current knowledge of a specialised field to go after domains in that area - preferably a high value sector (like gambling).

Park every domain you aren't using, you never know what income they might get.

Read, read, read. Gather all the info you can from dnforum and other similar sites.

Have fun :)

For an example: Another example :-D

I just regged 2 names at Reg Fee, and people already told me the names alone are worth Low $X,XXX - Im developing a nice site on them, Already Optimized for the search engines and could possibly sell for mid $X,XXX .. and it all cost me $16.00

Just have to work with what you got
