Hey Guys I am starting to get a lot sales on the forums and some I dont report I made about 6-10 xxx sales within the last month So I am wondering I am leaving money on the table selling to domainers or should I focus more on end users or go with both. I am getting the hang of forum sales but the enduser market is somewhat hard to me Cause I ahve problems talkng to guys about domains that dont user domainer/seo terminology So I also would like to know what you guys tell end users as benefits as getting a particular domain thta doesnt really have dirct navigational traffic

Depends. You could wait and then talk and for a few month to get a higher price ewith endusers (or maybe lower) or you could sell it asap with resellers which is fast cash.

You need to do your own research to determine a domains value. Do people use the term, is it owned in many extensions, is it a term that is searched for, does it have residual, (or better yet, continuing traffic due to the quality of the term)? You need to then realistically determine the value of the name. It is impossible to know if someone is going to want a name for a new brand name or if an end user two years from now will 'have' to have the term.

If it's a quantifiably a truly good term, you should have patience. If its a cutesy term that seems to be all the rage with some segment of the domain community that is simply building a demand simply amongst themselves (CVCVN.COM is the next big thing!! or every major corporation will be dumping .COM for .ME! - or whatever), you should sell before its on to something else! For the most part, if this community will give XXX for the name it likely isn't too bad. Its often hard to get $15 for a decent term here.

You should target both markets. Targeting end users can be difficult but with a little guidance you should do fine. Cold calling can always be a bit of a scary thing but after the first call or rejection, it gets easier, because you'll know what to say. I talk to potential sales all day and I have a lisp, so it can get frustrating. Never give up and be patient with your potential buyers, it'll pay off.

If you send emails out, that is a hit & miss.

Something that I am learning about selling on forums are there are two types of buyers. The ones hoping to snag a name to sell to an end user and the one who is hoping to snag the name hoping end users will come to them. The internet is still very young and people haven't fully caught on the train about brandability and how to get more traffic.

I am sure there are more ideas behind the forum sellers but you are leaving some money on the table, how much is determined based on your domain and how much you are pumping it out there.

Good luck and if you ever need any help, just let me know..

Bigge, is wise beyond his 22 years of life :)

I also think there are a lot more end user sales, just not at the prices people dream of or see in publications

you sell here, because you can
the thoughts about end-users are just a theory
if you can sell to them, then do it

everybody would prefer end-users, but still a lot of domains are traded here

i'm talking about so-called LLLL.com's, .mobi's, .me's etc

truth is that some names will either never sell or take a long time to sell to an end user. These same names get bought by resellers for the same reason you bought the names, perceived value and potential. Usually the buyer will eventually try to unload them in the future as well...or let them expire. As the domain world turns...cue soap opera music.

The -AVERAGE- it takes me to sell a domain to an end user is 6 years. Are you willing to wait and pay those renewal fees in the meantime?

is selling to graphic designers leaving money on the table?

I'm trying to understand the scope of your question. Sometimes, you can find a graphic designer that is investing in a brand or wants to create a web site for themselves or a client.

Unless you're simply suggesting, that because I am a graphic designer you'd make less money by selling your domains to me. There is one way to find out: try to find end-users that'd pay more. For as long as you're restricted to a "good old boys" club that treats domains as stamps and sports cards, you won't make any serious profit.

My first domain sale ever, was to an end-user. I turned a $70 registration into $2,500. I could have stopped there, but I didn't. Although it took me a while to realize what was going on in the domain industry, I am still using this forum and other venues to mostly find good deals - my sales nowadays are direct end-user sales.

Renewal fees are business expenses. As long as your inventory consists of quality names, you can sit on them until the polar icecap melts.

just kidding

unless you have polaricecaps.com

But I wasn't kidding ;) Of course you're leaving money on the table by selling at the tables of the popular market's bazaar! One should be selling at the hidden backroads that rich travelers take :D

if you look at some of the those big name sales, most owners held the names for years before they sold
