Is there a point in increasing your initial bid before the catch ?

There are like 20 guys biding on gamesforum.com, which has not dropped yet.
Since everybody enters to the private auction if catched, what's the point !?
Really I don't understand.

I placed a solid bid but I don't know if it will win the name for me.

It has been caught, if it`s in auction in snapnames.

The higher the bid is before the auction the more resources the catcher will use to get it. So bidding before the drop increases your chance to get the name

Please clarify, is this an assumption or observed fact? Thanks.

Let's say it is a "field rule", I've heard of that too.
But, since I backorder everywhere (enom, pool, snap, namewinner and even godaddy), I don't mind about increasing the bids.
The only chances are that if the domain is very good could be snapped by someone workign privately for someone like BFD.

GamesForum.Com is at $1,015 currently, by xinamesx.

There's a guy called "gamesforum" in the bidders, guess he will push harder :)

Chris from enom once said that this is one of the facts they take into account when they go after the domains. One other obvious factor is the number of bidders.

Yeah, you really have to take into consideration the number of bidders.

Well out of the range I would pay for a drop. It might be worth it but....still it's a lot of money.

enom stated in their drop rules a while back that bidding before the drop resulted in more resources being used to catch the name.

I'm not sure about the others but it only makes sense. Why try equaly to get a domain worth $60 and one worth $6000?

I won gamesforum.com at snapnames.

I was not expecting to bid so high to get the name. The final bid was my top, top price. I was in an internet cafe and had to get going. It's really my first experience of bidding a name up so high in an auction like this... it kept being extended by 5 minutes whenever it got down to < 1 min, was very frustrating and seemed to last forever.

I am very pleased to have the name though, and I will be developing it soon.

I've had offers of 5 figures for game forum . com, so you got a good deal, IMO.
