Hi,

Using keword search yahoo+ ovt sites, I came across a very current "music" persons name( BIG star US and most places) that is "xxxx x" (culture type dictionary word + 1 char in search results plus some variations ie xxxx x lyrics etc) with 270k keyword searches/results, the .mobi is available......

Is it worth registering the .mobi?- the .com .net etc are reg. but no site yet online from looking.

What do you think?

Discussion points:
1.Does using this type of search provide any basis for reg. .mobi's/trading/resale value?

2. Does this type of search for any keywords in x,xxx- xxx,xxx results range constitute value for reg. .mobi to resell/trade etc?

If you think it does, under what circumstances, what types of keywords are good for .mobi reg investment?

I know its broad, but I am sure you can think of some examples to test.

If not why/ ........................If so what metrics constitute potential market sale speculative value for .mobi?

:boink:

Very curious- sure that this will divide opinion, your thoughts are welcomed.

I don't think it's that complicated. Right now, the only .mobi domains worth registering are ones which have half a chance of being typed into a mobile/cell keypad, on the basis that the content is so compelling and time-critical that it won't wait for a PC.

Like ordering flowers at the last minute.

If the extension becomes successful; and browsers evolve further on mobile devices (e.g. proper support of Flash), and bandwidth becomes less expensive in many parts of the world, then .mobi has a bright future.

At the moment, I would not register (another) .mobi that didn't meet the criteria in my first paragraph.

Thanks azooza, appreciate your input and see your logical approach.

What about the KORN.mobi post here on dnf by predator- kind of along the same line of Q, curious about the auction- care to make a prediction?

predator.....do you have a point of view, seems relevant timing...

I think korn.mobi has legs because it's music-related and no doubt the age group that follow popular music will use their mobiles this way. And it's short.

Yeah, somehow RedHotChiliPeppers.mobi doesn't quite do it.. Most people would give up before number padding that domain in. :)

my latest phone is qtek, http://www.smartdevicesdirect.com/images/Qtek-9100.jpg ,it has keyboard and i successfully browsing Internet with it when needed

so therefor i don't think keypad is the main issue for .mobi success, Rather- extension it self

Not all people have a bulky Pocket PC phone that has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

I`m quite concerned about what happens if:

laptops will get so small that will substitute mobiles to use internet.....that will make .mobi totally useless

Not yet, but definitely in the future, its a good phone, has all PC futures and free with the contract in UK

it is useless already, all (nomobi) sites are perfectly resolving with this phone and has a good picture quality

PDA / qwerty phones are still under 10% of the market and given the biggest growth is in developing markets that is unlikely to increase greatly.

Worldwide already 2.5 Billion cellphones are in use, many times the number of PC's.

It is widely expected that before long the majority of internet use will be from a cellphone, probably by mid 2008 this will be the case...

therefore it does not matter all that much if the domain is 3 words or whatever as the phone will be the only way these users have used the internet and they do not have the choice of waiting till they get home...they will just do it whereever, whenever, on their phone.
