It's now got this in the reg details

Name Server: No nameserver
Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK
Updated Date: 26-dec-2002
Creation Date: 24-dec-1999
Expiration Date: 24-dec-2003

and the old registrar says they don't have it. Verisign says they are the referal URL. It expired on 25-12-2002

Is this the new system and is the name ever going to drop, or are Verisign keeping it to make more money out of us.

I'm waiting for a DotCom at NSI that expired on the 23rd of December - it now shows REDEMPTIONPERIOD so still a while.

well the details have changed again -

Name Server: No nameserver
Status: REDEMPTIONPERIOD
Updated Date: 31-jan-2003
Creation Date: 24-dec-1999
Expiration Date: 24-dec-2002

>>> Last update of whois database: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 17:32:10 EST

Anybody guess what is going on and when/if it will drop? The original expiry date was 25-12-2002.

After reading some of the other posts I suspect that this is what happened.

Name expired on 25-12-02.

It didn't get renewed but existing registrar ignored it.

When the new system kicked in the registrar got charged $6.

Registrar dropped it to get his $6 back.

The name has now gone into its wait period and gets dropped after 30 days if no one pays $85 for it.

Is this true? Please correct me if I am wrong.
