I am currently trying to decide what to do with this domain. I am undecided at this point on weather to sell the domain, do my patriotic duty, or keep it on PPC.

Trafficz #'s:
December 2003 1154
November 2003 15564
October 2003 10024

A little insite into the domain:

Acccepting Offers, and also suggestions for using this domain.

Very difficult decision you have to make!
I am in a similar situation because i own the former Iraqi-UN-Mission domain www.iraqi-mission.org .
I activated the old content as an historic document and plan to add actual news feed regarding the situation in iraq.
This domain has decent traffic + Google PR7 so it is possible to monetize parts of it which is legitimate i think.

Maybe you could handle this similar?

Btw. did you reactivate a catchall emailaddress for this name?
Would be interesting to check incoming mails ;-)

I'm sure that I wouldn't want to be associated with that name - sure hope you're using Godaddy private reg or Enom's ID Protect?

Exactly what would that be? The other two options you listed were fairly obvious.

The man said he wrested control of the domains from their owners

Did you catch this on a drop? Or is it a stolen domain, as the article seems to suggest? I don't mean to insult you. I'm just not sure what you are saying.

Right. Hate to intrude on this post, but you're either selling it
or you're not. Obviously, if you posted it here you're SELLING
so why say dumb things like "i'm not sure if i'm selling because
of my patriotic blah blah blah.". You're either asking people
for money, or suggestions (in which case the thread would be
in a different category).

I think you're insulting your "patriotic duty" by doing what
you're doing now.

If you were as patriotic as you claim, you wouldn't point it to
a PPC and milk it for all it's got but instead post a picture of
an american flag and say something like "we'll never forget...", etc.

Good luck with the sale.

Someone suggested that I do my patriotic duty, I guess there are many ways that this could be achieved. I was just asking for suggestions to maybe get the pros and cons of each, or to maybe discover another that I have overlooked.

The domain was caught at drop, I did not fully research the domain and find out this information until yesterday, the day that I posted this.

I would like to sell the domain, yet as with most domains posted here, I am not required to do so, unless I am satisfied with the offers, since I have not posted a buy it now price. However I also wanted input from potential buyers, that may not value the domain as highly as me, as to their opinion of what the domain could be used for if it does not recieve an attractive enough offer.

Where did I claim to be sooo patriotic? I had someone mention that I should do my patriotic duty, and populate the domain with a F-You message. Which in my opinion would do nothing but fuel the fire. There are other ways that this domain could be used in a better way. A catchall email is a great idea. And as for "milking it at a PPC for all it's got". I did not find out this information about the domain until yesterday. Yes it does do very well at the PPC, but seeing it used by a new owner or using it myself for better uses is my intention now that I am aware of what it was.

Please, enough already of the brainwashed blind patriotism crap....

....sell the site, or not. Let the buyer make their own judgement.

I'm confused - was the domain caught in a drop or did you break into the Hotmail account (etc...) as a hacker like the Wired news story says you told them? I mean - that is "major" libel if it was a drop as you say (and Whois info confirms).

The domain was a drop after this owner or hijacker or whatever got the domain, either he dropped it, the original owners dropped it, or the authorities had something to do with it dropping. I caught it with a Domainut.com backorder. Creation Date: 30-aug-2003

I fail to see the controversy here. Sid caught the domain in the drop, found that it generated considerable traffic, discovered its origin and is conflicted as to how best to use or dispose of it. He stated that he is "acccepting offers, and also suggestions for using this domain."

Isn't that what we do here?

You nailed it Luc ...

For patriotic act ... don't point to anything else.
