Check this out!

Very controversial memo from IBM.

http://www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=4&islist=true&id=2&d=02-06-2009

Those that are having their jobs eliminated by IBM, IBM is encouraging them to move to the out-source source!

That's right...recommending to employees here in the US (that they are giving the axe) to move to Brazil, Nigeria, and India.

What a novel approach.

Hey, we are outsourcing your job and we're letting you go.

The good news is if you move a half a world away then you can have you job back...

at 1/4 the salary!

There's more...the state of NY is being sued for asking online retailers, such as Amazon.com to collect sales tax for sales over the Internet if they have associates (e.g. customer support) residing within the State - not even a full presence in the State. Overstock.com is suing NY as well and have resorted to laying off 3,400 affiliates that are based in NY!

This happened to a friend of mine. His engineering job at a company that manufactures radio receivers for cell towers was outsourced to Thailand. He took the job in Thailand and has been there for about five years now. He met a Thai girl, got married and they have a baby boy now. He loves it there. Its paradise, and the cost of living is so cheap that the lower salary still has him living like a king. I haven't seen him in five years, though, nor met his new family. That's the drawback. That and the tsunamis.

I agree with the previous poster.

What people forget is that the United States has been "insourcing" jobs for many years. Over 1 million jobs have been filled "PER YEAR" from people moving in from outside of the country. So foreigners have slowly taken over your workforce over the years, and now americans are crying wolf..

This is mainly because the education level in the United States is so poor. You reap what you sow...

The education level in the US is ranked about 30th in the world currently. Ever since Jimmy Carter screwed up the public school system with his stupid policies, the education level in that country has gone downhill considerably. And that is a fact.

Here's a nice video showing american schools- properly titled, "STUPID IN AMERICA"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx4pN-aiofw

That's all you need to see.. Enjoy ;)

I whole heartedly agree that the education level in this country and public policy is pathetic.

I do not agree with the blame on Jimmy Carter.

I blame many entities from the federal government on down the pipe to the parents.

Every one wants it done how they would like it done but do not have a clue how to get it done.

Remember the push years back of Ebonics?

Teach it this way because that's how we talk?

WTF?

There is still too much divisiveness in this country.

I don't care what you call it but this is still a segregated nation BY CHOICE!

Look at how your communities within cities and inner cities are divided up by race, ethnicity, and religion.

We don't want segregation forced on us but we live it by choice?

Sorry, there is just too much wrong with this country and will continue to be wrong.

All this sensitivity training and diversity bullshit.

My take is some people(s) need to get over it and over themselves and move on!

What has changed in the social fabric of America the last 150 years?

Not a damn thing.

Read Alexis DeTocqueville's DEMOCRACY IN AMERICA first published in 1835.

You would think that it was today's headlines.

In brief, France viewed itself as being the founder nation of democracy. As a Frenchman, DeTocqueville wanted to see firsthand a new democracy in action - the birth of a democratic nation.

So he came to the US to be part of it.

In his book he wrote about the issue of immigration. Furthermore, he broke it down to generations. The first generation was full of pride and salvation and proud to be American. But that would start to fade and diminish as these new immigrants sought out their own for want of safety in numbers. And by the fourth generation, that generation had no sense of being American as he went on to describe that generation falling into the Italian and Irish gangs. Suddenly, it was no longer American, a nation of one but a nation of many.

And it continues today.

Yes, that is why education in this country sucks.

Because it is not a system of one nation, one person, one education.

Nah, I disagree. Carter totally reformed the public school system, and the country has been following that system since he left.

All through the 60's and mid 70's, the United States was #1 in the world in education. Ever since Carter f*cked it up by not having public school teachers accountable, the US public school system has been a joke, and has been steadily declining ever since.

This is a topic I am very well versed in. Study exactly what Carter did, it will blow some minds. It's not a mere coincidence. I do agree though that part of the problem is no one really attempted to reverse Carter's stupidity since.

I still find it appalling that as IBM lays off thousands, essentially IBM is telling them (and the country) if you don't like it go to where we have sent your job.

Honestly, how many have actually listened to that clip I posted?

IBM operations, customers and competitors span the globe. No surprise to see IBM or any other multinational spool up global job posting. The days of corporate nationalism and gold watches are long gone.

Let's not forget that the US went from a very strong manufacturing country to a country of "Services".

I read a story a few months ago that over the last decade, the US has imported people at over a 1000% rate for high paying jobs compared to other 10 year spans previously. Be it in the IT industry, doctors etc, you name it.

So not only has the massive manufacturing sector in the US dropped off dramatically, but when US companies really want top talent, they go elsewhere to import that talent 10 times more often compared to before.
