.jp domain names have only been offered since May of 2001, but since that date have become the standard for use among online businesses in Japan. Registrations of .jp domain names have skyrocketed, following closely the growing importance of the online economy in Japan.

There are many reasons why the .jp domain name has proven so popular:

It is easily recognized and trusted by the Japanese consumer
It is easy to obtain; there are NO restrictions on registering or using these names
There is NO limit to the number of registrations possible by one entity (companies can now create online identities for all of their products and business units)
With Japan Registry, there is NO need to host on Japanese servers. You can host this domain anywhere in the world, making it easy to approach the Japanese market from overseas

This is a tough "poll". What if you don't like any .JP's?? While I appreciate your comments regarding the .JP's, I can't place a heck of lot of valuation to them. Perhaps if we WERE in Japan? They may see it differently, of course.
Anyway, I wish you well with them.

You seeing more of this trend..the use of more countries using the self identifing extensions.. .de, .jp, .dk ,.ro etc..seems like they are flourishing..

I think for similiar reasons I outlined here http://dnforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7875

we may be seeing a new generation already identifing the web with extensions other than .com .... should be an interesting year .. If congress votes in favor of "kids.us " that will be the push that brings .US in the ffore front..my opinion of course..

I'll take a look at .jp closer..you have an official link or links you find promising about them?

good luck...

bTW.. dosent matter which extension you are delving in ..the investment remains with the generic one words..considering of course the differnet cultures around the world..

good luck..
