Just received notice that on July 1, 2010 VeriSign will increase prices - .COM will go up 7%, and .NET by 10%.

I for one don't think they have any right. It costs them less every year to perform their mandated monopoly, as technology in general becomes constantly more affordable.

But as long as no one else is taking this seriously, and no one is making his voice heard, this ridiculous exponential growth in the reg. fee will continue.

guess we have to up our prices by 10%... :pound:

thanks for info :yo:

Once again ? I thought they had already exhausted all the hikes allowed by Icann't.

From what I understand (someone like GeorgeK please correct me if wrong) the registry will have the ability to charge whatever they want for renewals since I believe the cost will soon be open-ended.

i.e. the registry can impose a renewal based on whatever criteria they want, such as a sites traffic, typeins, size, links, ecommerce, repute, etc so you could see renewal fees of 100s or 1000s of dollars a year, for example, maybe even tens of 1000s a year for large sites and valuable domains.

You must be talking about .tv, which is unregulated.
Fortunately that is not allowed in gTLDs. It's all set in the contract.

I have already renewed some of my domains for 10 years. These are active sites which generate revenue.

Is there a statement online from Verisign about this? or are they just emailing registrants?
Personally, see this as another cash cow for Registrars.

Incorporate. Then you treat renewals as an expense.
