Mobisite tribute to Gold-winning Oscar
Issued by: Multimedia Solutions

Multimedia Solutions has built a mobisite for Nike honouring three-time Beijing Paralympic Gold Medallist, Oscar Pistorius. The site can be viewed at www.nikepo.mobi from any cellphone connected to the Internet.

Eddie Groenewald, Multimedia Solutions CEO, says the site highlights some of the challenges faced by Oscar in life and how he has overcome them to become a Gold medal winner in the 100 metres, 200 meters and 400 meter sprints in the Beijing Paralympics.

“Oscar has proved himself yet again by winning three Gold medals at the Paralympic Games in Beijing. The site gives insight into the life Oscar has lived, and his interests and includes video content and a gallery,” he says. The site also has a referral system so that users can pass on the mobisite to friends, ensuring that the viral spread of news about Pistorius.

Pistorius shows that nothing is impossible and wanted to share his courage and achievements with all South Africans. The campaign was dubbed the “Bad Listener” campaign because Pistorius did not take negative comments to heart as he strove to achieve everything he set mind to.

Groenewald says Nike has used mobisites before with great success. For example, in its “Using Your Body as a Weapon” campaign, Nike had a portal on the Vodafone Live! Mobisite.

The mobisite was accessed through a banner on Vodafone Live! enabling users to download screensavers and video content (all without digital rights management). The site also contained a short customer survey with a competition to encourage response. The mobisite registered 84000 downloads from that mobisite and 9200 survey responses in less than a month.

“Sites like these are showing that mobisites are becoming a popular choice and will soon be a mainstream form of communication used by the majority of the population,” Groenewald says.

Given that there are 35 million cellphone subscribers in the country and only six million PC users, it's not surprising that mobisites are becoming more widely used, he adds.

Me, joke about .mobi? BAH!

There has actually been quite a bit of .mobi news the past few months by major corporations, especially the auto industry.

Not surprisingly, primarily Europe based enterprises even though they have US interests invested.

Jaguar launched a mobile ads via Admob and along with the site JaguarXF.mobi. BMW launched a totally new line exclusive only in the European market on a new BMW .mobi site (which is not BMW.mobi but contains the model number). And now there is VolvoCars.mobi.

The Italians have embraced .mobi in a huge way especially in the fashion industry. DomainTrix on the other forum is the one that has really been keeping up with this. Sorry, don't too many names over in the womens brand of the fashion industry.

Here in the states folks have gone nuts for Patriots.mobi, the official mobile site of the NFL New England Patriots.

So, no my friend...no joke.

Now, regarding the economy, the meltdown...that will be another chapter.
