I think I have a problem... I keep "forgetting" about domains I own. I don't know if it's a case of me not adding them to my tracker or just buying too many or what.

I keep track of everything in an Excel sheet, domain, expiry date, registrar, if its hosted or parked, etc. I even have it set to tell me if the domain expires within the next 30 days.

It was a great system when I only had a few domains, now I am registering and buying domains much more frequently and I'm honestly starting to lose track of them.

Anyone have any suggestions on a better system I can use or what you do to keep track of everything or is this just something that happens to us all?

Good luck with that. I have not only forgotten some of the domains but I forgot all of the registrars I am registered at.

I used to keep them in a spreadsheet.

Now I have all registrars I deal with saved in a folder bookmark and I check them at least once a month to make sure they haven't expired.

Then, I have another list under my project program describing my plans for most.

But this is with me having under 500 domains, as I know there are domainers who have quite a bit more.

I only deal with about 5 different registrars, 2 main ones though. I guess I just need to be more on top of things and realize that I am getting bigger into this and need to be aware of that.

I'm in the same boat. I wrote a nice spreadhseet that even tracked revenue, I haven't updated it in months. :(

I deal with two main registrars but with drops I have accounts and domains with several others.

Never, ever depend on emails to tell you when a domain is expiring. Check your accounts at least once a month.

I hear yer....

forget to put a lot of my new regges in my spreadsheet.

Luckily, they are all set on AUTO-RENEW as standard so I will get them in at some point.

I use ONE registrar....one for my canadian domains, nampespro.ca and Moniker....This way, I can keep track...also if anything happens to me, then all the domains are at one place. It is also a nice way to get a bulk rate.

mmaentrances.com and mmaentrancemusic.com

I am bored at work and was reading stuff about last night's UFC and there are always so many people who ask what was this dude's entrance music and so a while back I bought the domains with the intention of creating an organized listing of the entrance music used in mma - well I start working on it at work and check on my tracker and they aren't listed... that's when I started going to all my registrars and updating my list.

I had it happen just recently too with motorcycleinsurancequote(s).ca. There is a thread right now about motorcycleinsurance.net that just sold for huge and I was like right on that's similar to my domain, go check the tracker and don't see it...

I'm not a big fan of the panic that sets in especially with all this scamming I better make sure I am monitoring my domains!

I use DRT to keep track of mine. I am going to be coding a php portfolio and sales tracker soon to use for personal use. It will auto-update and have a lot of great lookup features to it.

I got a renewal notice for about 5 domains I had completely forgotten about so I'm in the same boat as you. I depend on spreadsheets too - there are other programs I could use but I prefer to do everything manually so I will have a peace of mind :) I guess checking the spreadsheet more often is something you and I both could do! ;)

Agreed, I'm not a big fan of automated things... go figure eh... I like the spreadsheet because if I enter things manually it keeps me on my toes and reminds me of some of the projects I could start working on... I think being more on top of things is the best solution :)

I consolidate everything at Moniker. When I'm successful on a drop through snap or pool, I immediately initiate a transfer at Moniker. Of course, in most instances, it won't go through right away, but I leave it there until it finally goes through after the waiting period. I print my "list of names" once a week and check the number of names in my account everyday. Being primarily a buyer, not a seller, it's a pretty straight forward system.

The best system is notepad.exe, used by old school elite ninjas only.

I use a program that was made for keeping track of my dvds I know its not the same use it was intended for but it works and it allows me to print or export the list.
