I've just sold thumbplay.com using escrow.com

Item(s) $2,500.00
Escrow Fee $157.50
Shipping $0.00
Federal Express Fee $30.00
Seller's Proceeds $2,312.50
Total $2,500.00

Then my UK bank wants 30 pounds to process the cheque. They can't acept a wire transfer in another currency!

Has the transaction cost me more than it should have done?

What if I want to sell a domain for say just $100?

You obviously used the premium service at escrow.com - I use the standard service and have no trouble at all (escrow.com kicks arse when compared to sedo & afternic) - this would have saved you $76.25

It sounds crazy that your bank won't accept wires in US$, get an account at another bank (I use natwest for wires but there charges for foreign checks makes it pointless putting in small cheques)

You could have made the buyer pay the escrow fee but I prefer to split it, this would have saved you about $41.50

The final way you could have saved money would have been to do the transaction in UK£ (escrow.com allow this) but that all depends on your buyer.

For low price domains I prefer to use paypal (or personal cheque for UK£ deals). This requires a bit of trust but I've never had anyone shaft me.

To add to that last sentance. If you're selling wait for the payment to clear before transferring the domain (this requires trust from your buyer), it's only if you're buying that you have to trust the other guy :)

Thanks domaindruid

The buyer wanted to pay by credit card so I guess escrow's premium service was the only option?

I offered to pay the fees during negotiations. I did get more than he originally offered.

Thanks

I was pleasantly surprised

I brought a handful of domain names a couple of years ago after hearing money can be made in selling them, but forgot about them really until a couple of weeks ago I was contacted with an offer on thumbplay.com

I guess this is a waiting game?

Most are in the format of thumb???.com thinking the popularity of mobile gadgets is increasing.

I've just parked the domains on sedo after reading about parking on this forum.

I don't really have time to build a portfolio or actively try and sell the domains. So will probably just leave the rest and see if anyone else makes an offer on one or more of them.

My other domains are...
www.ThumbPoker.com
www.ThumbGamer.com
www.ThumbSport.com
www.ThumbSmut.com
www.ThumbText.com
www.ThumbTyping.com
www.ThumbTypist.com
www.StonedFrogs.com
www.CraftyButcher.com

Plus a few of others

Can I put the domains I have for sale as part of my forum signature?

You would need to upgrade to Platinum first.
