What are your opinions on domains with numbers?

I've noticed that often there are popular generics out there with numbers and am wondering what people think of these.

For instance, generally, you will find names like newyork1.com, newyork2.com, newyork3.com; usually all the way to about 9 taken.
Another example would be, internetmarketing1.com, internetmarketing2.com, internetmarketing3.com all the way to about 9 taken.

I have never given them much thought in the past, but for many years now, you see these still registered, in use, or parked.

What are your thoughts on these single numbered keyphrase domains?
Any value on these? Are they in demand?

I would look at reported sales for that pattern of domain names. But I suspect most sales would qualify as flukes.
I think it depends on the keyword, sometimes the number could be relevant (eg Internet2) and I'm not talking about movie sequels where there might be TM issues.

Those are generally regged by people who can't get the real thing (without the number) cuz it's usually a hot name like the examples you gave. I see them get sold now and then but they don't command that high a price. Like if you can't have SanDiegoPadres.com (in fact here you can't or you just shouldn't, you'd get your ass sued in this example lol) you may want to own SanDiegoPadres1.com (that you find them #1, sometimes the number makes sense) Or with generics it sometimes works too, if it's a dictionary word or phrase you should be OK, China8.com would be great if you could get it (the 8 thing for Asians....) or a geo, Phoenix3.com should find a buyer, obviously the lower the digit the better chances the domain has

But when it comes to something like CloudComputing2.com you have to ask yourself why end users may want to own it, or for some domainers what the possibilities of successful development are. InternetMarketing3.com to cite your own, you need to be aware of what people are actually doing w/those (the ones not parked) If it's a 2 or 3 or 6 added to a name just because the lower digits are taken then it may be a waste of time

Certainly see the lower numbers more commonly registered. Thank you for the insight.
Saw it on the drop and figured but now, ask later.

Hi

from what I've seen, quite a few are also used to "track" the effectiveness of commercial tv or streamed-video advertisements.

an example would be > brandname123.com, as the url to purchase the product or service.

imo...

There is a pretty common pattern of these I've seen - social media usernames. Someone who gets popular on twitter/fb/pinterest/wordpress/blogger as 'boner8' has a legit motivation to get that traffic on his/her own domain while preserving their brand. Very few users understand that though, so tough education sale with a tiny prospect list and low budgets.

(Sorry to pull up a 5 month old thread, but I think this is still relevant)
