James analyze some data available at Crunchbase. The result shows new 1154 companies in the first quarter of 2021. Available data shows that 112 different extensions were used in their domain names. There, as usual, .Com is the most popular with 58.21%. Then comes .IO (7.25%), .Co (4.39%) and .AI (2.58%). I am surprised to see that .Net is at the 9th position with only a 1.34% share. In 2020 among the available 3728 companies, 58.1% of companies used .Com extension. .IO has 7.24%, .Co has 4.31%, .AI has 2.65 %. These data are very similar to the Q1 data of 2021.
If we looked into the data from 2015-2010, 63455 companies used 454 different extensions! At this time, .Com shows a negative trend where in 9 years .Com lost 9% of its possession. .IO shows an increasing trend after 6 years, from 4.95% to 7.24%. Possession of .Co remains almost similar for all 6 years which has the highest 4.84% in 2019. .AI faced an up and down trend. It was 1.38% in 2015, 1.31% in 2021 but was highest in 2017 with 3.00%.
Data shows a positive trend in New gtlds in 2015 to 2021. Where in it increases to 6.27% from 2.07%. CCTLDs like .in/.co.in, .de, .co.uk/.uk etc. are performing regularly
What is your thought about the trends of different domain extensions and about the future of these extensions???
