Any domainer ever think of just leaving the game? Simply liquidating all assets (and liabilities) and just be done with 'the game'? Whether you're a day-to-day domainer, a guru with other's to do the grunt work, or simply have a few premiums to live off of... do you ever consider just leaving and doing something else? Perhaps pursuing a new challenge in life? or investing it all in one single name?

Sure do. Would sell em all and invest in a web design company.

Would do it at any moment if price was right.

Same here. If the price was right, all my domains would be liquidated.

I think the dynamic nature of the business leaves us all feeling quite vulnerable and never really "in control". The longevity of those feels and need to run away is simply human nature and a defense mechanism.

Take some time and come up with a clear plan. Good luck either way. It is an ODD profession to be in ..... so, the feelings and emotions that go with it are bound to be just as unbalanced!

I don't do this for a living. I do it for the fun and the challenge of creating and creativity.

Once that fun and challenge wears off, then there is nothing left as an incentive. It is called burn out and that is what led me out of the advertising arena and profession as a creative director, designer, and illustrator.

Now if I paint anything or do any art it is by choice and for my pleasure. The same with domain names. I used to reg hundreds of them for clients. Now, I just do it for me.

Well kind of.... I finished college a few years back with an Economics and English degree and Applied Sociology (I'm 24).... worked for a huge mutual funds firm for a bit (6 months lol)... then left because I was not happy with corporate America and went domaining full time (for a year now) then I kind of enlisted in the Army yesterday (kind of a weird sidetrack) but will be receiving a substantial bonus(es) for the background and languages (but really didn't do it for the money). That's probably more info then anyone needs to know about me... but it had me thanking about the industry and the 'next move' and perhaps selling off and doing something else with this gift of life that we have. ((( I will put the beer down for a while :eek:k: I promise)))) The domainer part of me wants to obviously go full throttle and that other part of me wants to do something else....

has anyone left and come back? Any thoughts, advice, or blonde jokes appreciated :D

It has nothing to do with making a profit. That's the least of my worries or most savvy domainers. I'm talking about simply selling off and just leaving and doing something that your passion urges you to. I've made enough profit to justify why I've stayed.

Guess I just want to hear from domainers who, like me, have ever questioned simply leaving. And why?

Am thinking of doing what you said ... selling off my portfolio, buying a few good names with part of the proceeds, and moving on to other challenges.

That's what life and business should be all about. Go for it.

I thought about it a LOT of times and actually liquidated all of my assets. But always ended up re-investing all the money back into domains and sites. It is a much better investment than most other investment options I have. =)

I admire your courage although I am sure people have different opinions about this whole thing. Its probably a riskier job than most others, so if aou decide to keep the domains make sure someone has your logins to registrars etc.

i have- i am a mom of 3- i have a very very very busy life- and i do this as a hobby- money made usually goes towards the house or the kids-
but domaining takes upkeep- and many times i was ready to just not do it anymore- just stop and gain back that part of my life. even tho it is more of a hobby for me, domaining is quite addictive, and takes time and money.
things will come up, and part of me is like, sell cheap, and pay off the braces- and then the other part is like- no freakin way am i given them away.
and here is your blonde joke:

A man was in his front yard mowing grass when his attractive blonde neighbor came out of the house and went straight to the mailbox. She opened it then slammed it shut and stormed back into the house. A little later she came out of her house again, went to the mailbox and again opened it, and slammed it shut again. Angrily, back into the house she went.
As the man was getting ready to edge the lawn, she came out again, marched to the mailbox, opened it and then slammed it closed harder than ever.
Puzzled by her actions the man asked her, “Is something wrong?”
To which she replied, “There certainly is!”
My stupid computer keeps saying, “You’ve got mail!”
