Also, from a very unofficial personal poll, I have come to understand that many supposedly search-savvy folks actually just do type-ins, followed by a .com, just to cast the net and see what's out there. Interesting stats, though, Demo, thank you.

Yup, this is an easy explanation. Surfers get pissed off when they type in a word in a search engine because 400 million results pop up, in which they have to flip through several pages of ads to get to there target. The more words added into there search that describes what they want, the quicker they find there target.

true....I do that too on my researchs unless I don`t know nothing about the subject or unless it`s only 1 word.

On our largest site we capture and compile yearly these stats for ourselves and yes - most use three or four words in search engines to find that site. People are learning - best way to use a search engine quickly to get what you want is to narrow your search through descriptive phrases.

Interesting to see the contrast between nation's surfing habits.
