How am I gonna ... get a life ... after DNForum.com?

The Domain Names Forum at webhostingtalk.com is not even half as good :-(

Maybe the (former) mods will soon provide you with an alternative.

We can only hope (sigh) ...

Hey - you are always welcome to start a board at SupaWhois.com - I'll put up a script if anyone wants to moderate?

We are working on the launch of DotForum.com

The site will mostly include forums on Domain Names, Website Design, Web Hosting and Web Marketing. Topics related to the "dot"

We are currently experimenting with the latest version of phpBB on a dedicated server at Rackspace which may or may not change. The forum is far from complete but we welcome your suggestions! Register and give it a try.

For now, the forum is located at:
http://www.dotforum.com/

Domain - I like the look of the site. Very clean design and easy on the eyes. Good luck with it!

Thanks!

We might install Invision Board as well and check it out. Would have bought VB but we will be building multiple forums and the licenses would have cost a fair amount considering the number of forums we have in mind. Pretty happy with phpBB so far.

Any suggestions on topics?

Why don't you guys stop being immature and mind your own damn business. Yes, the mods contributed a lot. However they encompass a very minuet percentage of DNF's active community. It's time other people step up in there place, should they decide to leave. I mean christ, Dan is 16years old! Can he not be joyous on this occasion without this entire community spoiling it? Why should he be obligated to compensate anyone, let alone these three men who are doing fairly well financially with or without ownership of DNF. To put it simply put. It's Dan's domain, vB license, and marketing that even brought these three individuals together.

Now do not get me wrong, allow me to reiterate once more. Snoopy, MattyP, and Safesys and contributed a lot. Great administrators, even better then Dan. However that is all they are, administrators. They are not owners, nor financial backers of DNF. Therefore deserve nothing more then a pat on the back.

A pat on the back is not a slap in the face. They had an agreement previously, breaking out of it after the agreement is more like the slap in the face imo.

I assumed that it was hosted a "nominal" cost considering its at "thornton.com", which appears to be David Thornton's site/servers in the UK.

OK! Let's round it up to $500 (I'm being generous :D)! That still leaves plenty of "profit" for the domain owner VB licensee ... at the reported $5K "plus" sale. Shame about the mods though ....

Who knows, maybe something can be worked out! (Or are other, regal, sinister hands at play here .... )

Whoa! Remind me never to work for you! They were in fact financial backers of DNF through sweat equity. Thanks to their willingness to do their job for a pat on the back, Dan didn't have to come up with cash to get this very important work done. However when payday rolled around, instead of a pat on the back their envelope contained a kick in the butt.

I have run my own businesses for many years and I fully support an entrepreneur being rewarded for his efforts and risk-taking. However, that doesn't mean people who helped along the way should be double and triple crossed at every turn.

Certainly we all understand these errors stemmed from Dan's inexperience. He's a brilliant kid, he will learn from this and will likely go on to great things. He already understands he made a mistake even if you don't.

*sigh*

Pretty lame for a lot of you to leave a place like this just because...
1. it's being sold
2. the owner offended the mods (because he's 16 years old and didn't know how to negotiate)

Reason 1 is ultimately lame. Reason 2 is a moot point... Dan already admitted his faults and errors.

On the other hand .... the forum has been quite vibrant over the last 24 hours, so there is hope!

Dan is 16 years old after all, so lets lighten up on the poor kid! Sure, he was wrong in (speculating here) attempting to cut out the mods when he got a higher offer, but many "adults" play the "oops, just got a higher offer" game. Not "ethical", but lets cut the kid a little slack.

DnForum stills seems to be working OK ... hopefully moderation will come back, and some sort of accomodation can be made with the former mods.

Peace :)
