I'm about to buy a virtual server - reseller account, the only use i have for it is to host approx 120 of my own domain names and proberbly a max. of 6 basic web sites, nothing special.
My problem is:
a Windows Server is £500 per year
a Linux Server is £500 per year
a Multi Server (Linux and Windows) is £750

I would like to know the difference between the Linux and Windows, what are the pros and cons of each one and is it worth spending the extra £250 and having a multi server for what use i would use it for.

Thanks alot all

Regards

I have experiance with both, prefer Linux by far. The Window servers need a lot more configuration and management. They are great however if you have 2 or 3 guys maintaing them :)

So i wont have any problems then if i go with just a linux server?
It should do everything that i want?

Would someone be able to have a look at that package from fasthosts and see if it would be the right choice please?

Decal I would recommend going with a host in the U.S.

Hosting in the UK is expensive as the cost of bandwidth is much higher.

yep, but those 2-3 guys cost lot of $$ to hosting companies. windows is far from being even little bit stable and you can't run windows server without admin being nearby while you can put linux server online and forget about its existsnce for many month (unless some problem occurs). also windows server software (which is very unstable) costs huge $$$ while linux software is free.

usually i would suggest to get only linux, but this time prices for linux and windows are similar (if company would use only linux prices would be much cheaper) and there are people who prefer windows servers, so i suggest to get multiplatform package.

P.S. whoever called it "multiplatform server" please correct it - it's multiplatform hosting package which includes hostin on at least 2 servers (at least one linux, at least one windows).

P.P.S. for that money i would better consider getting own dedicated linux server and put cpanel on it for easy remote administration.

but that is serious money over here in the uk and its not worth it for what use i need, i'll stick with the linux system for a month and if its ok i will buy it for the year, either way i will let you guys know how it goes.
