Hi all,

I would like to try something i did not try before, i think it can be fun.

Everyone loves Football (soccer in us) , well almost everyone.

I am launching an international/multilingual Soccer/Football site and am looking for some creative suggestions.
IF you are a soccer fan, what is it you would like to see available online that you don't have today?
What IYO are the most important things to a soccer fan visiting a soccer site?

What specific features you like in some sites/what don't you like?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, looking for creative and interesting ideas/thoughts.

I value your time and thoughts and would like to pay the person most helpful for the time taken to reply to this post.

- soccer radio
- flash soccer games, single or multiplayer
- fantasy soccer
- area for ticket exchange, purchase discount tickets, etc
- store to sell soccer merchandise, autographs and more
- soccer rpg game - area of site to pay for premium options i.e.) habbo hotel, pimpwar, etc
- soccer charities - once a year site sponsors a charity event and collects money for childhood cancer, or other charities (get tv media involved, nice PR, etc.) Not only brings traffic to site, but also helps the cause.
- Website t-shirts and merchandise, stickers, decals, soccer balls w/logo
- News about player transactions, salaries, bio's, pics
- pics from local soccer/football parties (like going to a club and have people go wearing t-shirts with site logo and hats) Put pics on website of women and so on.
- info on how to play soccer/football
- legal gambling - betting on games - depends on where server is located and laws

Because it's a .TV, my idea incorporates the spirit of an online visual media site. I am thinking YouTube meets fantasy online leaguing.

You can use a YouTube clone or even a Myspace clone (Myspace clone would probably work better) and install a module where users can compete with fantasy football or soccer leagues. For the visual media part, allow them to upload their own related videos and use this as the front end.

And since jdk pretty much covered the rest, I'm out of ideas.

I like fantasy football but with the world cup coming up relatively soon you could do a fantasy world cup league and include the international stars and be able to create the ultimate team.

jdk mentioned lots of stuff but it might be a bit overkill.

The most important things to me are the scores from todays matches and it would be cool if you had them from all leagues but at least the English and Scottish Premiership.

Also, I like to see current injuries when it comes to betting on games, etc but they are never easy to find on most sites. If you had something that maybe displayed some of the more prominent players injuries that would be cool.

Obviously there are the more popular teams in the Premiership... Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal... so those usually draw the most attention but the availablility of everyone's favorite team makes a memorable site for me. And the fantasy football gives me a reason to keep coming back. The ease of seeing latest injuries means I don't have to dig through a site to find what I am looking for.

Additional things that football fans enjoy are wallpapers and highlight videos. Real time scores are great for returning visitors. Of course forums give visitors a chance to voice their opinions but it would need to be moderated a bit as we know football fans can get a little rowdy sometimes

Think - social networking. Like a MySpace or Facebook for soccer.

Members should be able to build own pages, PM each other, post photos, music, videos - then you can rely more on user generated content and less on updating news. I think a lot of sports sites lack this. People want to talk with each other about teams, players, last nights games, and upcoming games. You can get traditional news anywhere, I'm more interested in what other fans have to say. Fans can post photos and videos they took at games they go to, that you won't see anywhere else. They can upload videos of themselves commenting on teams, players or games - and members can vote on them.

Stockhouse.com is moving to this format now - they used to be a simple forum and stock news site, now members get their own page, can upload a photo, show their top stocks, latest posts, etc.

With sports you have a good shot because fans naturally form social groups for each team.

I didn't have time to read through everything above, but since I visit such sites often, and have a few landing pages dealing with soccer, I would say that most people go to such sites to find information on a particular player or team. Therefore, I'd make crosslinks dealing with this easy and fast. Make it simple to search for a player or team, crosslink to national teams, etc., and I think you'll have a lot of return visitors (and make a lot of money too, heh).

PS--since it's so international, it would be helpful to have language translation built in.

I would like to see a site that would allow you not only to trade, buy, sell soccer equipment, tickets, etc. but more importantly will let you find people in your area for pick-up games, founding fan clubs etc.. many people love to play but dont want the commitment of joining a club

I was running a football related website during the last world cup and of all the features of the website, the most visited ones were:

1. The match preview section - A preview of each upcoming match, and because it was a gambling oriented site we also had betting tips and a small chart comparing prices of 5-6 popular bookies for that match.
2. Previous match results
3. General info on the teams

4. We didn't have this, but I thought it would be nice to have, a feed with Live Scores

rank your favorite players on a multiple score system. i'm not talking about athletic ability only. think about how some of the celebrity sites work with the user generated content.

male soccer players are like major celebrities in many countries other than U.S. since soccer is not as popular here. i can totally see teenage girls flocking a site to rank there favorite player based on many factors other than athletic ability.

developing this channel would not only serve as an additional source of advertising revenue, but would also help merchandise sales.

It may be a greedy request, but I would like to see a schedule for both the Men's and Women's US Soccer/football matches., tourneys or friendlys and maybe a cable TV or satellite TV schedule.

One thing I would really like to see:

An integration of the website with popular football (yes, I call it football. Soccer sounds lame) titles like Fifa 2008 etc. These games have a massive user base, and if you can hold tournaments between these gamers and broadcast them live, it would be great.
