I am looking to start my OWN radio station online. I already have 30 shows on my network that stream live on ustream premium. I want to ad a radio feature. I have seen things like icecast.org and am really not sure how to start this up. Its very confusing since all the people I know only want me to join their network and will not offer help starting my own!

Have you tried shoutcast? Its by winamp. I once ran my own radio show from home using this. I used it on djek.us and there is a radio button on there, havent broadcasted in a long time.

Don't you have to pay that internet broadcasting fee?

I've looked into this quite a few times .. you an DIY "Do it yourself" or go through a 3rd party as noted above: A couple of things I always looked at when DIY are:

Equipment & Cost:

Media Server - $1 to $50,000
Encoder - $300 and up
Hi-Speed Internet: Check local prices.
Media Internet Service Provider - "Used for distributing your signal to the general public. They set their fees based on the number of simultaneous listeners etc. Cost $400 +/-."

There is a lot involved in doing it yourself. If you can find a 3rd party company to do all your work, then go for it. = )
