Lost a domain sale today directly due to the credit crisis! *&^%!

The buyer phoned me and apologised saying that he has had to re-evaluate his investments because his credit line was being squeezed by the bank and he had to ensure his other businesses were kept fluid.

I guess some others have experienced it too but it just goes to show that domaining is not isolated from the rest of the world.

Ah well I reckon it is time to put it down to luck and karma and just carry on. (The motto of a domainer - What doesn't sell for a dollar today may sell for ten dollars tomorrow, just a case of finding the buyer! k: )

I had a guy make an offer on one of my domain ($x,xxx) last week when he was on vacation and I accepted with $100 deposit.
He just sent me an email this morning and said he has to withdraw the offer because he found out that he lost the job today (after back from vacation).
I told him not to worry and refunded his $100 deposit.


You never know, I may sell the name to someone else for more.

Maybe but I personally doubt it, if he didn't want to complete he would just have said so, he is no shrinking violet that is for sure!

Life happens, it is just a case of getting back up and carrying on though.

Johnn, yes life is kicking people at the moment. I guess both of us should be glad that at least we were contacted by the buyers, it does show some sincerety on their part.

People find excuses all the time and it is human nature to find an excuse.

Some might say "weather is too hot and therefore not going to buy the domain".

This is not the first time that refunded the money. One of the guys that I sent refund a while ago came back and become my regular customer.

before the market went bad this fall I had interest from two parties in two domains at the low and mid x,xxx range. after a few email exchanges they went away, and I wonder if it is the economic times that is partly to blame.

domains and the internet are still a good place to be during these times, better than being involved in stocks, real estate or natural resources. the question now is when will recovery happen?

I've noticed a marked downturn in affiliate sales via my websites the past two months. Some are off 50% or more! Hoping the Christmas season isn't a total write-off this year. We should all know in a month. A little something happening tomorrow may bring more confidence back, or sink it depending on the outcome...

From domain sales reports and sales that are happening now you can't really tell anything has happened in the economy. Also, when the whole mess started there were a lot of good LLLL.com on sale in forums for decent prices, but not many anymore.

i'm not a big boy just one of the guys, but i've been buying month after month.

no recession, or credit crunching here!

there are just so many good deals out there.

Interesting points here.

I have been buying some drops and expirations that was simply shocking to see in the first place.

8 to 12 year old domains with a significant site history and backlinks on Google, Yahoo, Alexa, DMOZ listed and on and on.

I am certainly not complaining and have turned many over in a matter of 1 to 2 weeks.

On the other hand, these are certainly different times than a year ago. On the local scene, I am sad to see layoffs after layoffs announced in those "jobs for life" industries.

So if someone tells me they have had a drastic turn of events in a matter of weeks or even days, I no longer blow it off as BS.

I experienced the credit crunch first hand, seeing things cut down again and again, up until a week ago I worked in the construction industry, we were hit really bad, a lot of people I knew all of a sudden were jobless, We started having to travel 70 miles to work each day, they took our travelling time away, cut down our hours, ive now just been told by people who are still there, they have been told a 10% pay reduction is coming, like it or go elsewere, Im glad I got out of it, but I feel for everyone still there, its hitting everyone, i feel its similar everywere else. All Ive seen is immigrants getting more jobs,they are cheaper so with the tough times they are laying british people off and replacing them with immigrants to save the company funds in these times. Such a shame
