Lost my dad on Wed. He died a few days past his 85th birthday surrounded by his family and attended by medical staff heâd taught or knew. He was a man of conscience who, among other activities, worked to desegregate schools at a time when the National Guard was deployed with fixed bayonets and live ammo to prevent. He had just sent all 500 pages of his last book to the publisher. While it is hard to imagine a fuller or more complete life, I will miss him greatly.
