Marketing idea: Reverse auction.
ie: consumer/traveler inputs his flight needs, and the air ticket agents 'bid' on the ticket. LowBidWins..
This puts the buyer/consumer out of the 'work' loop in finding the lowest flight pricing. In reality, the 'buyer' shouldn't do any of the work.. the 'seller' the 'ticket agent' should 'bid' on the work..

or LowBidWin.com might do well as a 'freelance portal'... lowbid on jobs/work/projects win !!

No development so far, an empty vessel. What are your thoughts of the name & marketing idea?

Thanks for the input.

Sure. Just do what you thought.
You should develop it and earn money from the site, not the name.

With all due respect to your idea (which I DO Think is GREAT BTW), the concept of "outbidding" someone by willing to work or offer a service FOR LESS MONEY than your competitior is a risky venture to say the least. "Sealed bids" kind of solve this.

SUppose I posted here asking folks to bid for my business of 1000 domain-name-regitration-years - lowest bid wins. IT could be done, but wouldn;t it create some friction among the bidders? Shouldn't other factors such as service and support be considered individually apart from lower price?

Food for thought in a "PC" world.. :))

Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback folks.. always good to listen to other's views.

Just out of pure curiosity I just now did a search on google for the keywords: travel auction

It's a huge industry by all means..

I tend to agree with "Traffic" on this one.
Trying to give the consumer the best deal, and make a profit
at the same time, has always been a problem in business.
If you want to do something in the travel or hotel booking
industries.
I have.....
'unbookedrooms.com'
'unbookedtravel.com'

interesting concept, but its alot of work, and you would need to sign up a few companies. Question is, is it worth there hassle for the income they are gonna make? And how much could you expect to make? I think you would have alot of competition from priceline on this.

As is with most things.. "nothing comes easy"... and anything really worth 'having' is worth the sweat equity I guess.. If it were an 'easy' to layout, design and launch, then everyone would be doing it... Priceline can stand some healthy competition, I've purchased a few flight tickets through them, and felt I didn't have any 'control' over the timing of my flight, layovers, etc.. but as the 'end buyer' I am committed to accepting their offer, and my card being charged even before I know all the details of the flight arrangements. Seems as Priceline keeps' tapping into new arena's, and are trying to be the "Wallmart" in cyberspace.. it's hard to be 'all things' to 'all people'.. too big of a market to cover.. but if you can be ONE thing to a HUGE market of buyers.. and be 'what the 'buyers need'.. then buyers will eventually flock there..
If the buyers are there, with open wallets, I would think the 'sellers' would line up.

Many 'travel affiliate programs' are out there, so these companies were approached with a marketing plan which was 'below' what they are currently paying their reseller/affiliates.. (which gives them a margin to try to bid on the consumer ticket sales).. it might work.. would take time for sure..

Airline industry is hurting in the usa, and anything that could help this now failing industry, would be good.. for our nations' economy in general.

Thanks for the feedback.

I think all hotel auction sites are for un-booked rooms. Why would anyone bid on a booked room. "unbooked" is usually a given....I'd hate to bid on a room, and show up, and find out someone was in my bed....unless it was a hottie
