Interesting article on the Macau.com sale, they interview the people who bought the name and the seller, and also discuss the transaction and why the people bought it.

What I found most interesting was that the guy only regged the domain in 2002. It might have dropped or was never regged, but there it was, a half million dollar domain available less than 4 years ago.

Great domain, very lucky seller, lucky to have regged it in 2002, lucky to have sold it for half a million. Sweet deal. Enormous return on investment.

Macau.com was first registered in 1998 by a domain development outfit of the time called Domain Man Inc. Then in 2002, to the present, the domain seemed to undergoe several different ownership changes. Strange, as the historical information does not exactly jive with the article. In any event, a strong sale at $500K+.
