NEW YORK (CNN) -- The cause of a blackout that affected all of New York City and much of the Northeast on a sweltering August day remained uncertain Friday morning as power began to trickle back to a few, even as more than 15 million from Detroit to Ottawa remained without electricity.

What are your thoughts on the worst power outage in U.S history? How has it affected you?

Yea, why put up with just power outages when you can also have forest fires, earthquakes, and landslides. :-D

I work in Northern tip of Bronx. Within few minutes of blackout cops asked everyone to close offices/stores and go home. A cabby quoted a crazy amount to take me home. I said fine. Was home by 6.30 PM. Got power back today at 3 PM. Thank God.

Just when I thought I might be one of those unlucky guys who had to bear with the blackout through the weekend, power was back ... but only after more than 20 hours. Good though I still have all those flash light and water tank from y2k. I even had spare gas for my wife's boss who (actually her husband) drove all the way from downtown Toronto just to bring my wife home last night. The trip took them more than 2 hours and left less than 10L of gas in their tank. I don't know what I'm saying ... long story. I still have to recover from this nightmare.

It went out 4:30 pm on Thursday, and came back on at 4:30 am.

Then it went down at 4:30 pm today for another 2 hours, argh. Very frustrating.

The news was saying how nice the cabbies were..giving free rides

Either you got the one jerk of a cabbie or the media is trying to play up the good feel for the rest of the nation..

glad your all back...

BTW.. The Iraqis think it is kind of funny.. cant blame them.. it has been intermittent for them in 120 degree weather for months !

One good thing is that I have actually hugged more people in the past two days than for the past 6 months. This alone makes me rethink A LOT ...

Well, ok, I can admit, we currently have bad forest fires and are suppose to be underwater some time soon, but never heard of landslides being a serious problem lately.

What if Canada stopped selling power to the US?

Just a though. (not to get anyone mad).

I didnt know canada sold power to the U.S? And even if they do, its to U.S companies, not the country as a whole, and if they did stop (which I dont know if they even do sell power) america would find another source. America is full of natural resources.
