This issue might have been raised in this forum in one form or another before but I am still raising this issue again.
I access DNF from slower dial-up connections a lot of times and I think there are many other users here who access this forum by dial-up connections. Not every one has broadband connection at home.
Download of a page of DNF takes like for ever on dial-up connections because of the heavy graphics on the top of the page. There is a "Dnforum live auction" button/banner on the top of every page which is 9KB+ in size and the blue strip with DNF logo along with "the online community for serious domain owners" is around 35KB. Then there are "home", "register", "User CP" etc. buttons as well and each of them are 1.1 KB or more.
In the world of CSS this weight appears to be excess and some or most of it can be reduced without compromising the look and branding of DNF. For example text links styled with CSS can do a good job of reducing the page weight making its download faster.
Have a look at http://forums.seochat.com
Despite the presence of 2 big banners on each page of that site their pages look much cleaner because of text links. Without those 2 banners their pages used to load much faster.
If the redesign of top 1/3 part of pages on DNF (mostly the part that contain heavy graphics) is done in similar manner then it will result in significant reduction in bandwidth bill for the forum owner too.
This is a forum related to suggestions so kindly don't put "take it or leave it" in your answers.
