TO ALL WHO CARE TO SHARE & GUIDE A NEWBIE.

As some of you know I have quite a few “premium” names in the new tlds especially .INFO. I’m almost zilch when it comes to developing, promoting and making any profit from domain-names/websites (other than reselling names). Although, I did start developing quite a few sites (Amarillo.info; BabyGifts.info; Boardgames.info; Footwear.info; Fountains.info; Guitars.info; OklahomaCity.info; etc.) late last year after LR-1, it was all done by another person, a “moonlighter”, who’d promised (“guaranteed”) that in addition to developing the sites he’d make sure that they rank well in popular search engines and get to a point where they’d start bringing in a “small steady stream” of revenue. For some reason that never happened; neither they ranked in any SE nor the affiliates (primarily thru CJ) ever paid any thing.

Now, I’d very much like to do things myself, if possible. I don’t have a whole lot of time due to FT job and family commitments, but can afford about 15-20 hours a week. My goal is to either develop what you call “affiliate sites” that would actually pay something or put the domains to use in some other profitable manner. My questions:

Is this doable? Can the domains be developed into simple “affiliate sites” that would generate profit? If so, how much time is needed to develop one? Are there other ways of getting something out of good "keyword" names (other than reselling)?

How long does it take (spending 15-20 hours/week) to learn the basics of website development/promotion? Are there any online courses/workshops to learn this? Any other helpful sites/forums in this regard?

I’d greatly appreciate any advice and guidance that would get me going starting from scratch.

Regards,

Riq

Some people learn faster than others. There are many ways to profit on the web; and some people will find better ways than the path you go down.

One tip is to look out for a guy named Rick Schwartz (a.k.a., "Domain King"). I had the good fortune to be a guest on his message board for several years. I learned more about business strategy from him than I did in all the classes I took in college. If you learn the King's methods and apply them, you may change your life for the better.

I'm not living off of the web myself. (Damn, Google! They changed their algorithm after I had it all figured out.) However, I'm optimistic that eventually I will. It takes patience, above all else. You have to have the ability to persevere when others are quitting.

Good luck.

DryHeat: Re Rick Schwartz, look here http://www.erealestate.com/king.htm

You'll find at least 20 more links if you search for "Domain King" + "Rick Schwartz" at Google. Hope this helps.

All the best!

If it wasn't for The King, I would have quit the web, several times.

Now, every time I come in and see my email loaded with messages from 'RR', I'm glad I didn't.

Oh, to have 1,000 lemonade stands!

John, I second that (although I don't know who "RR" is).

The internet has changed the course of history and Rick remains in my view one of its leading visionaries.

You forgot one thing..Rick wont have anyting to do with .info ..

And yes Porn is how he made it..

Rick didnt do much of anything except LAND some very premiunm sex domains ... http://www.erealestate.com/history.htm

Porno.com and Ass.com ..what idiot cant make it off of those domains ! (true Type-ins)But you have to hand it to him because he was one of the first and he kept building off those intitial investments..

He now simply sends traffic to any domain he wants..thats the KEY.. He dosent needa ny search engine.. his adult empire know provides him with al the traffic he needs..

He can know make any domain intoa money maker because he has traffic..

I couldnt find it..but he wasnt said something to the effect of Ok maybe everyone dosent buy porn..but everyopne buys toothpaste ! ..meaning all he has to do is direct his porn traffic to a "toothpaste" website and bingo that site is profitable..or to Fishing Gear or to computer website ect..

Most here do not have that advantage..BUT even forgetting about high profile domains for a minute providing all the traffic..

The other lesson was building a web within the web.. building your sites and moving your traffic from one to the next..your links should point to YOUR sites ..not somebody elses.. screw Google

I believe you've drawn the wrong conclusions from what he was saying. He often says that with a $10,000 stake he could start a business that profits $100K a year. What he does is identify potential streams of income. He gets a domain for this stream and then watches how well it performs. He experiments, tries new things. He monitors the results of his experiments. When the income stream is satisfactory he moves on to other streams.

When I first got into the net I bought about $23,000 worth of stupid names. I've kept about one or two of them. If I had bought a single name for that amount (or less), I would have been much better off.

Identify potential streams of income. Watch and evaluate. Repeat successes. Learn from failures. That's the strategy that Rick teaches. I try to follow it every day.

forums are a great source of information and a great place to get help

making a website takes days to learn and years to master

there is now quick solution but if you spend the amount of time on the web like you plan to you should see returns in a few months

if you try to build your first site with the sole intention of making money youll probably fail
build a site rich with content and you will be in a great position to make money :):)
