IPSWICH, England (CNN) -- Detectives hunting the killer of five women working as prostitutes in eastern England have arrested a 37-year-old man, police said Monday.
The man was arrested at his home in Trimley, near Felixstowe, Suffolk, on suspicion of murdering all five victims, Detective Chief Superintendent Stewart Gull told a news conference.
He was arrested at approximately 7:20 a.m. (0720 GMT) for the murder of the women whose naked bodies were found over a period of 11 days.
He is in custody at a police station in Suffolk and will be questioned later Monday.
Gull said: "He has been arrested on the suspicion of murdering all five women -- Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell and Annette Nicholls."
The daily police news conference had been brought forward by 90 minutes for the announcement.
ITN journalist Juliet Bremner told CNN he is thought to be a supermarket worker who spoke to a British Sunday newspaper saying he believed he was a suspect.
On Sunday members of a 500-strong task force hunting a suspected serial killer canvassed motorists and pedestrians passing through a red-light district to try to trace the final steps of the five murdered women
