Scary thought that TB is coming back with resistance.

Tough situation with that guy - damned if you do, damned if you don't. But someone accountable has to make the tough call - one man's freedom or the infection of X amount of people?

Been two cases in the past two weeks in Canada were people have been charged/convicted for having unprotected sex while knowingly having HIV and not telling their partners.

it's a ****ed up situation...we are all doomed

The main problem is the mostly destructive (you have no idea) and incorrect administration of powerful antibiotics for many diseases that our body could naturally fend off if allowed to, (in a healthy person) but in todays fast paced world where days of work count and can make or break most people, the ever so popular "take a few pills until you feel better and then get back on your feet" approach is destroying us by allowing these antibiotic resistant germs to proliferate through non adherance to prescribed drug schedules, factor in the monster HIV and other ideal breeding grounds for these pathogens and we literally are on the brink of a big HOT ZONE worldwide...big can of worms here...we should all be wearing masks.

It mentions that he contracted the disease in Russia.

Scary as it may sound, 8 years ago a Russian guy worked as a sysadmin for a company that my employer used for data security. The guy was coughing all the time at the meetings. A few weeks later he was dead from acute TB. He had worked for the KGB in the former USSR and chances are that the Ruskies developed the TB strand that resists all treatment, as a potential weapon against the West in the Cold War era.

We almost all carry the TB germs anyways for the most part...with the exception of those who have been on intensive antibiotic regimens for other pathogens..they are probably in you right now.

A friend of mine had went over to Russia for 3 weeks for his job, in his last few days he had flu like symptoms and ended up with a rare strain of illness that they finally treated but they still don't know what it is. The microbiologist said he had only seen the strain in Russians and it was touch and go whether they could remove the bug he had, finally he got toxic treatment that killed it.

God knows what superbugs places like Russia have, wipe out life but not buildings.

Well the problem is they made most of them over there, and many inevitably escaped and are still in the wild...ever read the book "Biohazard" by Ken Alibek? (he was a top russian scientist that headed the Soviet Union's biological warfare production program) Very scary stuff..

County health authorities obtained a court order to lock him up as a danger to the public because he failed to take precautions to avoid infecting others. Specifically, he said he did not heed doctors' instructions to wear a mask in public.

I'm glad those doctors had the sense to get him locked up. I see no difference between that case and the case of a mentally unstable patient. If any person is an uncontrollable hazard to others health and well being (and not willing) to at least take measures to minimize the risk of causing harm, they ought to be quarantined/jailed/removed from society.

Figure a mental patient could go nuts and kill a few people. As opposed to a guy with a deadly, easily transmittable disease who could cause infection/death to an entire community through careless behavior.

Decides not to wear a mask in order to protect the community he lives in? Sounds like a real winner.

people that know they have Incurable infectious diseases and do nothing to prevent the spread to others should be locked up.

totally agree...think they should all be taken off to some remote island where they can be free yet not endanger others..
