i bought some .ME domains, but was very upset to get the following message for each domain i ordered, a couple of hours after i placed the order.

there was no prior warning that pre-registration might not mean the names would definitely belong to you if ordered.
'Dear Jansie,
Just a quick note to let you know that we've submitted your [domain's name].ME application to the Registry. If your application is verified and the name is uncontested, the domain name will appear in your GoDaddy.com, Inc. account with no further action required on your part.

If, however, your application is verified and there are other applicants for the name, you will be invited to participate in an auction for the name.

Thanks for choosing us as your registrar.

Sincerely,
GoDaddy.com, Inc.'

July 17, I will be applying for some. Don't have the money for the pre-registration but I do have some good ideas.

can you give some reasons why you say it's a waste of money?

thanks!

Right now the costs are though the roof and it is a huge rish. $850 minimum investment until a few days ago. $100 for 2 years now is tempting but I'd rather risk it and wait until July 17th where I can tryto get 1 or 2 names.

You'd rather tell us why you think you should invest in that particular extension

actually, that is not how reasoning works. another user said it's a waste of money, he should explain, if he's so kind, as to why he keeps to that view.

but, no hard feelings if he doesn't want to share from his well of wisdom. ;)

Yes, the prices are ridiculous, but it may be your best chance to actually get the one(s) you want. I applied for a couple, but doubt I'll get them at a price I'd be willing to pay, but expect a refund if I don't. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. As to whether they would gain or lose value, it depends on how the market reacts, just like any other high risk investment.

Dude, its a waste of money.... it looks like your new to the forum... and maybe a new domainer...

past 7 years, a lot of junk like .me has been introduced... its a cash grab, search for yourself.... majority of them are DEAD, no one uses them....

domainers and developers may benefit from keywoards....

but the rest of the world will use .com

.me is just another .bz .biz .cc ........... the list goes on!

I have enough experience in my books, to say no to .ME

Good luck to the rest of you...

Oh... I bet money, there will be a huge story published in the next few months....

AbdulaKarimMustafaHusseinJr.Me sells for $500,000 US.

I'd have to agree. This whole .me is another way for registrars to make $. Be very careful not to overload yourself with these types of extensions. I read an article (posted by DCG) that shows how many "premium" .mobi from the SEDO auction are developed. Suprisingly very few have been developed. This is interesting since the owners had to go into contract saying that their mobi will be developed within the 1st 6 months.

well it says in the post, and on the ME auction FAQ page, that the domain will be entered into an auction. this was not the case with this specific domain. i was simply informed that the domain is registered by someone else, and that i will receive a refund.

see the problem? if it were entered into an auction, i'd have been notified. here's the last message i received from godaddy (after i posted the above):

Support Staff ResponseDear SirMadam,

Thank you for contacting Online Support.

Unfortunately, you were unable to register your domain as it has been registered to another registrant. A refund has been issued for the registration fee.

Please let us know if we can help you in any other way.

Sincerely,

Eric O.

Maybe your name is on one of the both reserved lists for .me domain names...
You may look here for more info and the urls of the lists.

What bs! They cherry picked all they could think of.. But they missed at least one! Surely someone else besides "me" thought of it. Will find out if it goes to auction.
