I have a question. Let's say I pre-register a domain and pay the $100. Do I get a refund if the domain is sent to auction and I don't win?
Let's say I'm using godaddy to register it.

It appears that way. I had the same question, didn't see anything on godaddy's site, but at domain.me, it says they do give a refund if you don't get it. here: http://www.domain.me

I think whether you will get a refund depends mainly on the registrar you use. Some registrars will even allow you to be on an invoice mode so you pay for the names only if (and when) they become truly yours.

Hello, with Godaddy :
[FONT=arial, helvetica, sanserif]**Landrush domain name purchase does not guarantee receipt of domain names. After Landrush closes, identical domain names requested by multiple parties will be auctioned between the requesting parties. Unsuccessful auction parties will receive a full refund on their Landrush purchase.
