Two-Year Requirement for Internet's Fastest Growing TLD is Lifted
Podgorica, Montenegro- Oct. 1, 2008- As of today, the .ME Registry has reduced the minimum requirement for a .ME domain name registration to a single year. This means customers can secure the most-popular new domain extension ever with just a one-year commitment, instead of two.
The .ME domain extension was introduced in April and exploded in popularity almost immediately after being made available to the public. More than 100 registrars now offer the top-level domain and the portfolio of .ME names is fast-approaching 150,000.
"Reducing the two-year requirement, we think, will open up dot-ME domain names to people, businesses and registrars who have been watching the new TLD grow and wondering if they should get involved," said Predrag Lesic, the registry's executive director.
There was no shortage of bidders as the .ME Registry auctioned off premium names in New York City recently. $218,000 was generated from just eleven .ME domain names at the auction. The highest single bid was for Date.ME, which went for $70,000
