Wow, that is a truly great domain name. I wonder what they paid for it. MS shares perhaps? :)

Oooo...I bet that went for a pretty price.

And yes - cash and stock options would have been very sweet!

Looks like a Tom Graham owned it until 5/19/2009 and then an IP/acquisition company called Marksmen.com got it. Apparently, Microsoft used a proxy buyer. So it probably sold for considerably less than what we all imagine.

Personally, I doubt they paid more than $1 million.

hard to say
was an existing website with 80k alexa

although they have just bought name apparently

i would take a wild guess at 3-5 million
and would guess the first site wasnt making very much with its services, so this is a LUMP of money

www.office.com

maybe someone can crawl through ms accounts at end taxyear?

I would love to sell names to micro$oft. They seem to buy on a regular basis and they have an interesting portfolio.

Juice.com comes to mind.

For the record, Microsoft started using a third party for all acquisitions, after a Microsoft employee responsible for domain acquisitions funded her...own personal account.

Lesson learned: always ask for outrageous amount because it might be Microsoft :)

Just downloaded and installed Open Office on a new laptop.

Looking forward to breaking the MS chains.

Open Office is great and I recommend it to anyone who wants something like MS Office without shelling out the GNP of several small nations. I even include it with every PC I do a FFR or even just refurbish.

With that aside - OO misses a lot that MSOffice has and MS is far more powerful and has many more options than OO has.

If you just want the basics and nothing fancy, go with OO. If you need more, then go with MSOffice.
