Internet users will be able to access a website simply by inputting the site's Chinese domain name in their IE 7 next year.

Microsoft is to enhance the security performances of IE 7, which supports Internationalized Domain Names (IDN)

Guidelines for Internationalized Domain Names Registration and Administration for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, formulated by CNNIC in 2004 has been recognized and distributed by Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

It's getting closer. I hope you all got in. :cheeky:

This is very interesting. This appears to the English Version of publicly sanctioned Chinese Newspaper confirming the National Registry'sendorsement of IE 7.0.

That is quite a big story, as not only are IDN getting good publicity but it also shows that China is very much moving down the ONE INTERNET route. This would suggest China recognises the need for browser support and does not see its DNS tinkering as a long-term solution. I think this means that it won't be too long before the missing traffic reappears.

Yes and it appears the search engines are kicking into gear as well.

Multilingual search continues to be a top priority for MSN

Rosette's capabilities include automatic language identification; conversion of documents into Unicode; and identification of names, places, and other key concepts.

OMG...This is going to be huge. This only means that our domains will be enhanced even further for top SEO results. IDN's will be the only way to go.

Yes, I have noticed something going on here with Google in Russian.

You input Cyrillic and you get results with what appears to be just English.

Does this mean that you ultimately get Search Ranking in the US using Chinese Domain keywords? That would cause a stir!

Yes, you can try. The russian word "квартира" for "apartment" in google search.
This site in on the first page. It's in English and the meta tag doesn't have this term in it. Which would lead me to say that it's already being implemented and working well. And will work vice versa.

Maybe I should move on this...

1. Where is the best place to get Chinese IDN .coms?

2. Do IDNs work as email addresses?

Yes, you should. Just in time mole.

1. DomainSite.com, Enom.com and Dotster.com

2. Yes, they do.

Mole,

Good dot coms are getting as rare as Rocking Horse SH*T in Chinese and Japanese, but there are still interesting opportunities out there.

Dot Info have not really rolled out IDN in Asia yet, so there will be a big landrush there.

If you are really interested in this, you need to get in to the Member ONLY stuff at idnforums.com. Membership is still free, but that won't last much longer!

That's true Dave. For anyone to stand any sort of chance in IDN they need to get versed very quickly.

From the contents of my inbox lately, the strategy seems to be to wait until the last minute and then ride in like the Lone Ranger and offer me a pittance for a good chunck of my portfolio. By pittance I am still talking 5 figures, but frankly it is unlikely to raise much more than a wry smile.

Yes, they better take a look at the new news topic. The city prices just went up ten-fold.

Yes, and it probably won't be long before the steel shutters come down.

Once IDN get enough traffic for me to cover the cost of renewals, then I can see the IDN Store being closed for good!

Wasn't IE 7 supposed to be released during the end of 2005? I have the beta but I thought the full version was to be released.

No, they were going to release a Beta 2 to developers by years end but scraped plans for that and just went ahead and announced the public beta for early 2006.

Ah thanks for the clarification. Personally, I dislike the new layout of the thing.
