This is potentially hugely disruptive for the parking industry. If they systematically hit the whole of the Alexa 100,000 that kills just about all TM typos.

"Domains Parked with Sedoparking.com [WhoIs] and Under Active Investigation:"
"Domains Parked with Domainsponsor.com [WhoIs] and Under Active Investigation:"

this is kinda scary, but I would think a company can and does do this themselves. Using your own DNS and url fowarding might keep you under the radar a bit, but it just looks like they are running domains through typo generators.

No chance, there is millions of typos generating more than reg fee annualy. They discovered just a top of the iceberg. And most of the "victims" does not care anyway...

Even top 100K is a huge blow to parking industry. What if they care? Typos are becoming more risky everyday.

Even top 100K is a huge blow to parking industry.

It is not "TOP 100K" typo domains. It is typo domains from Alexa TOP100K.

Now look for example cartoonnetwork - there exists thousands of good typos. And CN does not even care to get those TOP 100 with huge traffic, which they could easy WIPO. I have thousands of typos, lost just one in last 1.5 years and got maybe 5 C&D emails with no follow ups.

Typos are becoming more risky everyday.

Yes, that has been told for 5 years already since Zuccarini...

This Microsoft initiative is IMHO mostly motivated to make some damage to Google, not to make good deeds...

Denny did you bother to read that page in it's entirety? Many of these big companies don't bother with typo squatters because it's a hassle. If MS makes it easier for them then they might just go out and get the domains.

Funny you mention cartoonnetwork...look near the bottom of the page.

Well there are 54 names from CN.

I am not a typo squatter and stuff like this is why.

All they have to do is report it to parking provider and there goes the revenue.

If MS makes it easier for them

MS just find the typos. This can monkey do in one afternoon... They still have to go through standard procedures.

Thats only top of the iceberg, there exists thousands of typos of CN, I got myselves about 100, none of them is on the list...

OK lets suppose this will happen. So i.e. CN typos - I will make some "fan page" on non-TM domain and redirect the traffic there.

Every idea has a shelf-life and it looks like a Shut Down Clearance at the Typo Emporium!

Denny do you feel over the next 5 years that typo-squatting will be more or less profitable? Do you believe in the next 5 years that typo-squatting will be more or less accepted? I am just wondering. I admire you and your ability to rock the typo world. More power to you..it's just not my thing but you do you. I am not a doomsayer I just think that typo doesn't have the future that others believe. The web is about content..would you rather own CartoonNetwork.com or a typo of it?

Really hard to say. With TM domains selling for 1-2 yr revenue these risks are included in the price. Traffic is traffic, who has traffic is a king. If I start to believe TM domains will end, I will stop buying.

Do you believe in the next 5 years that typo-squatting will be more or less accepted?

Accepted by whom ? Who accept it now, will accept it in the future. There is the potential danger, the parking places will be forced to stop accepting TM typos. But only some domains, those most blatant. No-one can do research on (tens of) millions domains for TM problems. And I own mostly only small typos, which no-one cares about....

I admire you and your ability to rock the typo world.

Oh no, I am a "Johnny came late", I am small potato. The real kings are Domaincar (Unasi), Laporte (Chesteron) and few others I "meet" in the whois while doing researches. With only about 1.5mil uniques/month I IMHO even do not belong into top 100...

would you rather own CartoonNetwork.com or a typo of it?

Would you rather own a factory manufacturing Ferraris or a Ford car...same question. I have legitimate businesses, I am doing domains out of desperation, 'cause I can withdraw only limited money from Paypal and need to spend it. However with ROI over 50% is money spent well...

I don't think this will go anywhere. They are just three researchers and there is no benifit in MS promoting this "product" to sell.
