German Region of Mittelhessen.com (Central Hessen) 13 years old
Population 1 million plus. Here are a few facts:-
As a business location, Mittelhessen is characterized by a strong and diverse contingent of mid-sized companies. But a surprising number of global players are also based in the region. The competitive advantage of Mittelhessen is an excellent educational environment combined with a strong base of innovative, mid-sized companies. Mittelhessen has a population of one million and a work force of about 450,000. The educational landscape in Mittelhessen is excellent. When measured in terms of number of students within its entire population, Mittelhessen ranks number two in Germany. And the competitive advantage of this large student population has been strengthened even further through several programs designed to speed technology transfer from universities to businesses.
Each of the cities and counties has its own traditions, political history and pattern of economic development. In the past, this has lead to friendly competition between the cities and counties. But in recent years, the entire region has been working hard to develop a common strategy for development. As part of a regional planning process started in 2000, Mittelhessen has launched a number of regional projects designed to create a more cohesive spirit for the entire region. This has been successful on several fronts. The non-profit regional management association Verein Mittehessen e.V. was created to serve as a cooperation platform for local governments, businesses, educational institutions and trade associations. Another prominent example of increased regional awareness has been the renaming of the Fachhochschule GieÃen-Friedberg in early 2011. It is now theTechnische Hochschule Mittelhessen (THM). The three main business locations in Mittelhessen are GieÃen, Marburg and Wetzlar.
