Don't sell those .mobi domains just yet. Your day might be coming soon. I just read this article. It's very interesting to me although I don't own any .mobi's.

"Google unveils mobile voice search in Chinese"

"US search engine Google Inc yesterday launched a Chinese-language voice search service, in an effort to lure users from domestic rival Baidu Inc in the world's largest mobile market."

If you want to read it, the rest of the article is here:

http://english.people.com.cn/90001/90778/90860/6801681.html

Read and enjoy .mobi holders.

Mods, if this information should be in "Domain Name News" (now that I re-read it it might) please move it for me.

IMO the fate of .mobi is pretty much detached from the evolution of the mobile market.
It's like saying .tv will rebound soon because an increasing number of households are currently buying flat screens TVs.
Good luck to the believers :)

The evolution of the mobilemarket is enormous !
That's a fact and not a belief.

Google Voice sucks. I tried twice, once in USA another time in China. There is 3 second delay between each word. Imagine 3 seconds. It is so awkward and IMPOSSIBLE to make a conversation.

Try it and let me know.

And sdsinc is right, get rid of the garbage while you still have a chance my friend. Most people that believe in it, get confused with the mobile market vs .mobi, which do not go hand in hand.

This google voice is primarily a transcription service - messages recorded are converted into type for you to view as a text message on phone or computer.

I am interested in seeing that side of the value of it. Accuracy, text, length, etc. This could ultimately have great value.

OK, I forgot about that aspect which I think is a secondary benefit and not the main reason for Google Voice use (but I could be wrong.)

However, with that said, I can tell you it's extremely inaccurate with ongoing significant errors, twisted and completely wrong words used with basically every transcription I have seen. Both the control ponel and email transcripts are just plain riddled with continuous errors.

P.S. I still don't see a connection with .mobi?

Neither do I. Not with this particular aspect.

Welcome to Google Voice. You have now set up your cell phone to use Google for your voicemail. Every time you miss a call on your cell phone, Google Voice will record the voicemail, transcribe it to text and send it to you as an email and an SMS. They will also be saved online just like email. Of course, you can always listen to your messages by calling the access number shown at the top of your account, so you may want to save that number to your phone's speed dial list. We hope you enjoy Google Voice.

The cell phone aspect is just one feature with other features which are just as valuable, imo, such as the free phone number and ability to ring all your phones at same time and record the calls, etc.

P.S. What is the connection between .mobi and cell phones vs say any other tld, as far as G Voice is concerned?

The source of .COM is rare now, the mobile market need another power TLD. So ,MOBI plays the role.

I believe in .MOBI.
