This reminds me on something...
The exact thing will happen with redirecting a mobile user to a mobile friendly .com.
Everything which goes automatically goes automatically wrong... The consumer wants to choose!
Yes this is a great point, choice, power to the user..
Which is why I wrote my only gripe against Dot Mobi at
http://internethumanrights.com
Don't force me to do anything..
Besides, I'm not gonna remember your wap.domain.com/mobile URL anyway..
.. and what if I wanted to access the full site
.com version (with just scrollbars) from my high end PDA and you forced me to a lesser mobile version?
(interesting point MobileDesigner about your "forced" experiences in Japan with English)
Since all Dot Coms exist now as full established sites, these need to be preserved for "full" access on the move.. do the device detect and redirect on the .mobi.. it is a seesaw effect happening with dot com and dot mobi.. one is used alot now for mobile but has a confusing role (.com) and the other (.mobi) has very little usage/content now on the net.. but will only rise from here.. just faster than the alternative.. because the demand for the mobile internet revolution is high now.. so the dot mobi compliance standards can act as a catalyst for the adoption of .mobi over .com for mobile mainstream hotness.. just as Microsoft Windows unified everyone on one platform for timely advancement.. in its own revolution..
Kind Regards,
Yelo
