Moniker has an oversize reputation as being the most secure registrar. I've never had more than a few names there at a time, so I can't judge that too much. But I do notice one *very* big problem.

On several occasions now, after transferring a domain name out or having it fail to register properly, it still shows up in my account. Right now I have 3 such names: 1 dot.us and 2 IDN's.

So the bottom line is this: even if your moniker account *says* you have a domain name in it, you might not. Hardly gives you a feeling of security. :undecided:

Many registrars have the same issue.
I still receive notices from Registrationtek (buydomains) that tell me my domain has expired 80 days ago ;)
Moniker will normally take notice after a few months. It's just confusing.

Hey folks - that is a common database error between the registry and registrars and it is experienced with others. just email [email protected] and we will address these in your accounts.

BTW - this has nothing to do with security and domain theft. there is nothing related to security by having failed domains in your account. Security for us is hijack prevention and account penetration/infiltration prevention.

Hi Monte,

Thanks for your comments but that's not the full story when it comes to security. Seeing an asset in your account that *isn't really* in your account is definitely a related issue. Imagine that you are managing a large number of domains, or you are just a new domainer who doesn't keep exacting track of your domains. You forget that a particular name has been transfered to another registrar or loose track of it. But you seem to remember that it was at Moniker, so you login, and there it is, all safe and sound, right?

Imagine a storage locker with a remote camera where you could view your stuff. It could be the most secure facility in the world, but if the camera was broken and showed you things which had been removed long ago, or were never actually placed in the locker, that would definitely be a security issue.

There may be other registrars with the same issue, but then it's something they should all be working to fix, and doing audits as needed to detect anomalies. Wouldn't you agree?

you have a point....I am trying to see what the issue is. As I stated, it does happen from time to time due to registry syncing issues. If anyone has this problem, email me and support and I will have it resolved.

it happened to me when I was trying to register a name simultaneously with someone else. Apparently, the other person beat me to it at checkout and all I got is the domain's phantom appearing in my account. i'll contact support
