ICM Registry, which runs the .XXX TLD, revealed earlier today that it has applied for three more adult themed TLDs – .sex, .porn, and .adult. ICM CEO, Stuart Lawley, further announced that existing .XXX domain holders will get a chance to automatically reserve matching domains in these three new TLDs for no extra clause via [...]

I won't be buying any of these names that's for sure.

Another registrar attempt at a cash grab!

and they seem redundant in perspective to .xxx, but it's about "space capture" more than anything

Then they might as well apply for .penis and .vagina so they have it all covered.

Since names are no longer first come first serve but automatically go to an auction - is there any other "winner" with these new TLDs other than the registrar? How much $$$ did the .xxx registry pull in and how much money has been made though resales? I'm willing to bet with extremely few exceptions it's been a loss with new registrants. The true test will come when renewals start come in - will there be a lot of drops?

I'm pleased with the results of my .xxx names

I have had a couple of offers so far, these from .com owners.

If I end up getting .sex .porn .adult then I will be very happy.

Ulysses it's because you are a developer, you don't care whether .xxx takes off or not, you already monetize your domains.
But most domainers have bought domains for resale only, they have no intention of developing. I predict they won't be successful.
Too many defensive registrations + too many speculative purchases result in an underdeveloped extension.

See where the top .mobi portfolio holders are now. Left holding the bag. In theory they could still develop their names and make a buck or two but the option is hardly relevant anymore.
Why keep an extension alive when it's DOA.

I understand your point and do care that .xxx takes off because my small investment will gain some value. I had to learn to develop and monetize because i was fed up with having low return just parking.
Dot Com really is king, no doubt about that. I'm enjoying my success with Geo+keyword.com/cctld and i cant wait to see the results when the UK finally pulls out of recession.

I certainly agree with you on this subject. I know many of the .mobi investors quite well and its very painful for them. I feel bad myself for the amount of $$$$$ i wasted on .mobi.

Don't get me wrong I am still holding a few just in case, the future doesn't look bright for .mobi unless Affilias does the grandfathering thing with .m as a tld.

it seems they are 'reserving' them but won't point to anything unless you are willing to pay extra. i don't trust icm much. they talked so big before xxx came out and now they are mostly silent and with this news, seem all over the place.

The biggest problem with .xxx and related TLDs is that very few domainers will opt for the development route with their names. Buying up .xxx domains is one thing, putting up porn websites is another. I'm not sure most people would be willing to do that.

All the good names will be sold to Frank Schilling or some other big time investor. And many more names will be reserved for premium auctions.

Who said they had to be porn? How many .net domains are for networks now? How many .org domains are for organizations? How many .us domains are actually US sites? Sure, the insinuation and expectation might be there but that doesn't mean it has to be a reality.
